Piazza della Repubblica
by croisbeauty
Piazza della Reppublica is one of those squares you might pass by, during the day, and even do not stop here. Huge traffic in this area with lots of buses might hide what is worth of seeing. It is, however, one of the most attractive sights in Rome during the night time. The whole area around the square is almost perfectly illuminated and the sleeping beauty shine in all of its attraction.
Flood Markers around Rome
by Lacristina
On many buildings in low-lying areas of the older sections of Rome, you'll find markers like these - literally pointing out the high water mark of floods, recent and more ancient. These were just three of many on the front of the church Santa Maria Sopra Minerva (Santa Maria above Minerva - or above the supposed ruins of a temple to Minerva). You'll find them just to the right of the main entrance off the piazza with Bernini's whimsical sculpture of an elephant carrying an Egyptian obelisk.
Trastevere
by phred1910 about Too many to count
The Trastevere area offers ample opportunities to imbibe and release your inhibitions. Just walk along the alleys on a pub crawl that will be guaranteed to leave you literally crawling.
There are also many nice cafes and restaurants for a quieter evening or a good start.
Bad Chinese Food with hair in it!
by theolinthree about Grand Secolo
Avoid this restaurant at all cost! We were staying close to Termini Station and had a desire one night for Chinese food. We passed this particular place on our way to the Coliseum one day and picked up one of their cards. Well, dinner was bad right from the start. The people outside trying to get you in were nice, but once we were seated it took about 15 minutes to even get menus. Then another 15 for a waiter to show up. The soup was fine, typical wonton. Then the main dishes arrived, complete with thick black hairs in one. We immediately called over our waiter who went and got the owner ( we assumed she was the owner). Instead of an apology, the first thing she said was "Those are your hairs!" And very loudly at that. Well, if she had bothered to look at the two of us, she would have noticed that we are both blonde. The hairs were thick and black. I told her I was not going to pay for this meal and started to leave. She got really loud and then I got even louder, telling the rest of the diners about the hair. A few decided not to finish their meals as well. We all left. I suggest you avoid this place. There are other great Chinese food places in Rome. None, Avoid this place!
Visit the Vatican City
by Cazee
You need to allow probably a full day to do this tourist destination as this is a huge place and one of the richest country's in the world. The Vatican City has it's own currency and it's own postage system. It is a really fabulous place to visit and see the Sistine Chapel, St Peter's Square and Basilica etc. The souvenir shop at the end is the best one I have ever been in and not at all expensive.
