More about Guest House Arena Rome
Nice place to stay in Rome!
by TripAdvisor Member kat1014
We booked Arena House B&B for our five night stay in Rome based on the reviews here at Tripadvisor and are very glad we did!
The location is good, right behind the Colosseum, near a metro stop and a couple bus stops that will get you where you need to go. There is a police station next door, a tabacchi shop across the street, a grocery one street over, and several restaurants in the area, including the two bars you may choose from to have your breakfast. The gelateria down the street to the right is wonderful and has a myriad of flavors to choose from. We went there every night.
Our hosts Vincent and his wife Barbara are very nice, helpful, and accomodating. Vincent's English is excellent and Barbara tries her best, and is just the sweetest woman in the world.
The rooms are very basic, but comfortable, and the bathrooms are new and spotless. The a/c is wonderful, especially in July, and the free internet in your room is a plus!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Arena House and would definitely recommend it to others.
Perfect Budget Hotel
by TripAdvisor Member Extracoconut
This is a fine example of a budget hotel in Rome.
As others have mentioned, it is very close to the Collosseum. Also within in walking distance (if your fit and healthy!) to Termini Station and many great Rome sites.
The Hotel owners are very helpful, too.
The room we had was perfectly fine...clean and spacious.
Internet access in each of the rooms was also a great boon.
Breakfast is only coffee and a croissant / "danish" but that's fine really and the two cafes you can use are also friendly.
Would definitely recommend this hotel to others and would also consider using again in the future....I threw one coin in the Trevi, so I suppose I am destined to return!
Nothing to do with the hotel, but I avoid Pizza Forum (between Hotel and the Collosseum). It's awful.
Chris.

close to Colosseum

Excellent location just behind the Colosseum. Safe too because it is next to a police station. The staff is very kind and helpful. In fact they helped us in planing our day trips.
I shall definetly stay here again.
Very comfortable place, close to all major attractions
by TripAdvisor Member Amazing1672
We just got back from our dream trip to Italy. We were at the Arena House from the 17th to the 19th of Sept and it was a home away from home for us. This cute little B&B is very close to all major attractions, is in a very safe neighborhood and is a great value for the money.
The caretakers of the B&B made our stay extremely special. Vincenzo was very helpful detailing all directions and major attractions for us on the handy map. In the first 15 minutes of being at the Arena House, he made sure we knew exactly everything we needed to in a new place and answered all our questions. Barbara, who is a sweet-sweet person, was so hospitable that I felt like I was meeting my long lost relatives after a long time. She carried our heavy luggage to our room herself and made sure we were comfortable in our room.
The room itself is small-ish but this is Rome, so completely acceptable. The bed was so comfortable that I slept better there than I have at times at home. The computer in the room is a great plus - we used it to copy all our pictures from our digital camera to a USB drive as we were running low on space in the camera.
One thing that you should know - they only take cash. They make sure that you know about this and it doesn't come as a surprise to you.
They also arranged a very reasonable car pick-up from the airport for us. The driver they use - Gianni is a character. He is like the typical Italian you see in the movies - talkative, extremely genuine, very helpful in his broken English. He was constantly talking on his two phones at the same time, while also talking to us and describing all the major sites on the way from the airport to the hotel. In the middle of all this action, he also managed to drive the car at 90 mph ! It was hilarious to see him do this but we had great fun and it was a great start to our Italy trip.
When we were leaving and wanted to give a small token of appreciation to Vincenzo and Barbara by way of a tip, they completely refused to accept anything. I kind of felt a little embarassed on offering them a tip as they seem to be running this place for the love of it and really want all the guests to have a pleasant experience in their B&B and feel at home.
I will always remember the way Barbara hugged and kissed me when we were leaving. They definitely know how to make your stay a memorable one. I look forward to staying with them whenever we take our next trip to Rome.
Excellent location and friendly proprietor
by TripAdvisor Member Steveandchristine
This is a friendly place. Just a small establishment, but clean and honest. The rooms are adequate and the air con works. The internet access is fine, once you master the european keyboard! (Try finding the @ key!)
The location is excellent, and friendly bars abound nearby.
The owner offered helpful advice over sightseeing, taxi booking etc and genuinely seems to enjoy his work. Tea and coffee making facilities are provided, in the hall outside the rooms. The breakfast is provided at one of two local cafes.
To tour the city simply stroll to the Colloseum and hop on a tour bus, or stroll through the ruins. All the main tourist locations are in walking range.
This hotel is approached by some steps and would probably not suit a wheel chair user.
The beds are comfortable and the rooms and en suites clean.
La Dolce Vita on a budget
by TripAdvisor Member mikeboston1
Great little spot. Perfect location. Clean, comfortable and quiet rooms. Decent bathrooms. Free internet and computer in each room.
It took us a few minutes to find the hotel. The directions they emailed could have been a little clearer. V. Marco Aurelio is off V. Claudia rather than P. del Colosseo. Still very very close to the Colosseum and an easy walk from the Colosseo metro stop.
Vincenzo, his wife, daughter, and cousin all worked very hard to make us welcome. They helped with directions and sightseeing. And even pretended to be impressed with my feeble Italian.
Breakfast is provided around the corner by two small bar/cafes. We found the one across the street on the right to be better and much friendlier than the one on the left. The left one didn't seem to really be interested in accepting the hotel coupons. The one on the right was fun and they even bagged some ice for us to take back to the hotel.
The rooms are simple but not tiny - room for two large adults with luggage for a 3 week trip. Desk and wardrobe. Television with satellite but no dedicated english language stations - but one of the Italian stations would run CNN in english for an hour 4 times per day. Decent shower with good pressure and lots of hot water. Everything is very clean. Bed was quite comfortable (but only 2 pillows). Good A/C - which we needed even in October.
There several bars and restaurants in the small neighbourhood around the hotel. The one we liked the best is about 5 minutes away - near the metro stop. Hostaria da Nerone, Via delle Terme di Tito 96 - is very reasonable, great food, open until midnight, closed Sundays.
There is a laundromat less than a 10 minute walk away on V. Alfieri (V. Petrarca) near the corner of V. Merulana. Big washers/dryers can take an entire suitcase of laundry for 4 Euro. And the machines lock when in use so you can stroll up and tour Santa Maria Maggiore while your duds are sudsing.
My sister had stayed at Arena in fall 2005 and recommended it and she was right. Vincenzo and his family clearly enjoy their business and want all of their guests to enjoy the hotel and Rome. I hope I get back to Rome soon and will stay here when I go.
Such a helpful host!
by TripAdvisor Member moena
My husband and I stayed here last year when we visited Rome. We loved the location; in a quiet area, just a block from the Coloseum. The host helped us by arranging for dining reservations as we did not speak Italian well enough. I never drink coffee at home, but enjoyed the cafe latte' and cornetto each morning at the bar around the corner. We felt that even there, we were greated as temporary locals as we handed over our little ticket, ordered and were quickly served our breakfast.
Our room was perfect, it had three single beds and a private bath with shower.
Great stay, great location
by TripAdvisor Member APieterse
We stayed here on out trip to Rome and can highly recommend it. The location is great and it is within walking distance from most of the ancient sites. The owner and his family are absolutely wonderfull and were always willing to chat and answer questions.
The rooms are small but modern and the internet in each room is a great bonus. The television only has Italian channels, but you don't go to Rome to watch television!
The location and quality at this price make it probably the best value in Rome.
Nice place, wonderful location
by TripAdvisor Member Kaschu
The guest house is very simple, but the location worths every Euro. It is only two blocks away from the Colosseum, near several bus stops and a metro station. Nice restaurants nearby. The house owners are extremely helpful and kind, making you feel at home. I arrived late (at night, flight delay) at the house and the owner was still waiting and calmly explained with a map how to come and go, and this was really very helpful. There is a PC with internet access in the room, but it was not working very well. The room was average clean, the bathroom was ok. The breakfast was only a croissant with a cup of coffee, but it was tasty. When coming back to Rome, I will stay at this guest house again!
