Holiday inn

The hotel is located quite far from center, but close to Vatican, they have shuttle to Vatican ,but you need to get a free ticket for a ride, quite in advance and guest service don't tell you about this when you inquire about shuttle service. If you are screwed, don't worry 5 min walk to the bus stop and Metro ride will save a day.It was Ok for me because I came to Rome on the train and public transportation was Ok for me considering that all my luggage was safe and sound in Milan Holiday Inn's storage. Avarage experience was pleasurable:nice ,polite guest service, good food, pool! It was hard to find the hotel at the beginning ,because it's location it's kind a besides the road and behind little shopping plaza on the hill.

Unique Quality: Pool, close to Vatican,no need in Taxi

Stay with the foreigners

A very nice place to stay and it is 4 star first class rated. We were on a bus tour, so included breakfast buffet that was great. Rooms clean and roomy. The area, however, has little that you can do, or find a place to eat. It is on a very busy street/road and traffic going by 50-60MPH. We ended up a couple blocks away and went to a grocery store to get provisions to eat back at the room.

Good Location

Nice room with almost American air conditioning. Restaurant is wonderful as is bartender Bruno. They have a hotel shuttle to city (but not early or late times). Easy to get to city via subway; cab is $13-$17 EURO. Internet was down during our stay and have no printer for printing boarding passes. Lot of tour groups stay here (13 buses) one morning. I would stay there again.

What's Near the Holiday Inn Rome West

by beccajane

My parents & I will be staying at the Holiday Inn Rome West two nights on our whirlwind European tour in early May. What's within walking distance? What's the best way to get to the main attractions that aren't within walking distance?

Well, unless you are professional walkers, there aren't any sites within what you would call "walking distance". St. Peter's is about the closest thing, and it's 6 kilometers (3.6 miles) to the east, and most of Rome is beyond that. Actually, the back end of the Vatican is only about 3 kilometers away, but you have to walk all the way around to the other side to get into St. Peter's.

The hotel website is at http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/hi/1/en/hd/romva?irs=null

The area along Via Aurelia is residential. You will find grocery stores and laundries and the other shops that are found in a residential area. This will include restaurants and bars, by the way, so you will probably be able to walk to both nearby. This area has a lot more vegetation and trees than much of Rome, so it will not seem like you're in the center of a major city (as, indeed, you are not).

One thing this hotel is very convenient for is access to the ringroad (not far to the west). If you had a car, you could easily go west on Via Aurelia to the Gran Raccordo Annulare, and then go around town avoiding the traffic in the city center. Thus, you would go to the airport and Ostia Antica (southwest of town), Castel Gandolfo and the Castelli Romani (south and southest of town), Tarquinia (northwest of town), and so on.

The website says that there is a shuttle into town from 9:00 to 19:00, and the schedule is published at the hotel - you'll need it. There are almost certainly several bus routes going down the Via Aurelia, but most won't go past the Vatican, I suspect. See www.atac.roma.it for the official website for the bus and subway system (look for the British Union Jack for English).

Note that taxis in Rome are not terribly expensive, so that if you take the shuttle into town in the morning, but want to stay and eat late, taking a taxi back shouldn't be a big problem.
