More about Hotel Alessandrino

Go to Rome! Don't wait..go any time, stay anywhere

"Pope John Paul ll"

We got there on a Tuesday afternoon and had to sleep. On Wednesday morning we all went to the Vatican. The hotel we stayed at Hotel Alessandrino was near St Peter's Basilica. We walked down to see the Pope. We heard he holds an audience every Wednesday morning from his balcony. We got there early so went inside the Basilica to see the architecture, artwork, and statues. When we got inside we noticed areas that were roped off and figured out that he was going to come here, not wave from the balcony. When he appeared I got this picture.

"The Castle of The Angel"

This fortress is also known as Hadrian's tomb. It also was within walking distance of our hotel. Right by the castle are 2 bridges. They have huge statues of angels along them. They are beautiful. The city must have just cleaned them, they gleamed in the dusk. Here's a pic.

"B I G doors, little cars"

Too funny. I took a bunch of pics of these big/gigantic doors next to the little Smart car made by Swatch! Like I said before we walked pretty much everywhere. Yes, my feet hurt, but there's nothing like walking a city to know where stuff is, like the Trevi fountain, Piazza Navona, The Pathenon, Spanish Steps, and loads of Roman citizens!
Here's a great pic.

Travel Tips for Rome

Albano Laziale is a town...

by mannymiami

Albano Laziale is a town about 25 minutes south of Rome . Its in the Castelli Romano region of Lazio. This was my home in Rome. Its up on the hills of the Castelli Romano and along side Lago Albano, which was formed by a giant crater. The lake is greatfor all water sports and swimming and the water is cristal clear. Here you canalso get the famous Coli Albano white wine and also the Frascati white wine. Along side of the lake you have great and inexspensive trattorias and pizzarias that offer great regional food and wine. The town next to Albano Laziale is Castelgandolfo where the Pope has its summer home. Great day trip from downtown Rome. You can get there by train from the Termini train station in Rome...

Walk........or not.......

by leics

Central Rome is eminently walkable, and you will see so much more whilst you are doing so.

But it also has an excellent and efficient public transport system: buses, trams and Metro (and some suburban trains. to places such as Ostia Antica).

You can buy tickets from some Tabacchi (signed with a white 'T' on a blue background), from some newstands and from machines dotted about the city. A single ticket lasts 70 minutes on all forms of transport.

But the easiest thing is to buy a 3-day ticket (also available for other periods). This will cover any and all bus, tram, Metro and suburban train rides you take over those 3 days; it only needs validating once, at the start of your first journey. Make sure you always have it with you, and that you have filled in your name and date of birth on the back: inspectors do check, and they don't wear uniforms!

The simplest places to purchase such a travel pass are the booths at the Termini bus station. Strangely, you won't get it from the bus information building there: look for the little row of booths near the Metro entrance in the bus station.

Pizza a Trastevere

by AlexDJ about Ivo a Trastevere

Lively, popular, reasonably priced and the pizzas are superb. The house wine is also good.
This restaurant pizzeria is in the heart of Trastevere quartier just behind Piazza Sonnino, very close to the Tevere River. Friendly atmosphere and staff very efficient! Enjoy Pizza Margherita served on the typical metal dish. Also "bruschetta" is very good; it's the typical slice of bread dressed with salt oil and fresh tomato, all spiced with some garlic

Singing on The Steps

by princessbride

I remember a lot about my trip to Italy, but above all, singing on the Spanish Steps was my favorite. See, after the sun goes down, the steps become a very cosmo hangout place. On the evening I visited the steps, a group of local guys were huddled together with a few guitars singing "American Pie". My friends & I sat down next to them and started singing along, and before we knew it, everyone on the steps was singing together. It was fabulous!
