I just had a few days off work and so went to Rome on my own. I decided to stay in a backpackers hostel for cheapness and because I thought a hotel room would isolating. I knew I?d made the right decision when I found myself at gone midnight, drinking not-so-cheap wine at a free open-air rock concert, with others from my hostel. What a great night. As I?m 38, I had worried that the hostel would be full of much younger people and I wouldn?t ?fit in?. Okay, well I was 9 years older than the oldest person I met, but although some of them were as young as my own child, nobody treated me like I was their mum. So, I?d say to any other ?slightly older? person thinking of staying in a hostel, if you?re up for it, go for it.
