Great place to stay in Rome

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at Capo D'Africa Hotel for 2 nights at the end of May and loved it. The staff was all very helpful and friendly. Our room was awesome, very large and comfortable. The breakfast was great with lots of choices, a great way to start the day. One of the nearby resturants, Le Naumachie was inexpensive and one of our best meals in Europe, loved it! The location was great for us an easy walk to most places. It is close to the metro and several bus stops, it took us a while to find the right bus but it was a quick way to get to Vatican City. We only had two days in Rome so we really had to book-it to see everything we wanted too, and after a long day in the craziness that is Rome it was so nice to come back to our quiet hotel with robe and slippers waiting. We had a very early flight and the hotel staff was very helpful in arranging for the mercedes to the airport which I'd highly recommend. I would definately stay here again, loved it!

Delightful place

We have stayed at this hotel twice. On the first occasion we spent seven nights there and liked it so much we went back for a long weekend later in the year.
The hotel is small and unpretentious but is one of the best contemporary chic hotels we have stayed in. All members of staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful on both occasions we stayed.
There are lots of good places to eat in the surrounding area if you don't want to go into the centre of the city. It is two minutes walk from both the bus, tram and metro stops for the less energetic who can't face the 15 minute walk into the centre.
I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Great hotel !

We stayed at the hotel this past weekend as the last stop of our 2-week vacation in Italy. What a wonderful hotel - new, clean, stylish, in a quiet neighborhood close to the Colosseum and Forum. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was the best we had in 2-weeks and as others have pointed out, it's from 630 to 11am. The limo service to the airport was so nice and for 50 euro a great value. I highly recommend this hotel and will stay there again.

Spectacular!

The Hotel Capo D'Africa (named after the street on which the hotel is built) is new, ultra-modern, and simply wonderful. It does not have any old Italian charm, but in Rome it is a welcome respite to stay in a hotel that is clean and new. The hotel is located just a block away from the Coloseum but relatively far from the Spanish Steps, Pantheon, etc. The staff is extremely nice. The breakfast outside on the terrace couldn't be more wonderful. The rooms are not large, but they are comfortable, ultra-modern, and very air conditioned (a plus for Rome). We started our trip in Italy at this hotel and finished out trip in Rome at the Hotel Modigliani (also wonderful).

Excellent Hotel in Rome

by A TripAdvisor Member

What can I say, it was fantastic, we stayed in July 2004, booked out 20 rooms for my wedding. Everyone was pleased with their rooms. Beautiful decor, big bathrooms, fully equiped with all mod cons. The Hotel Terrace is a must, looking out over Rome, beside the Colosseum, perfect location.
Katia on reception help organise everything for our stay, all the staff at the hotel were very helpful.
I would Highly recomment this Hotel to anyone for a really romantic stay in Rome. Would go back tomorrow ...................

WHAT A FIND!!!!!!!!!!!

What a gem! This is a great hotel! From the minute we arrived the experience was fantastic. The room was big, very modern, with great amenities, and was completely set up for us with our child bed. The beds were the most comfortable I slept on our whole trip. We stayed 2 nights but wish we could have stayed many more. The service is incredible. They were great with our 2 kids. At first we thought the neighborhood was a bit shady, but soon discovered it is great. Terrific restaurants, and a supermarket, taxi stand, etc. LOVED breakfast from the rooftop, it is delicous. Only warning is that the front entry way is all steps and was a bit hard to negotiate with a double stroller and 2 kids, but the bellman was almost always there to help. Plus we got a great room rate from expedia.(approx $200 a nite including all taxes and fees)

Excellent value, excellent hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at this hotel 18-24th July. The service we received was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was nicely decorated and well maintained by the cleaning staff. The shower was excellent, but we did set the pull cord alarm off by accident, so be warned! The breakfast buffet provided was very good with something for everyone. It was very hot during our stay and it was lovely to have a room with such good air conditioning. The hotel was quiet and relaxing throughout our stay and we would definitely go back. We also booked the hotel car to take us back to the airport. This was an excellent end to a great holiday.

Rome in August

by Vallelde

I thought that I might have posted this before but I am new at this and cannot find my posting anywhere so here goes again....Going to Rome in mid August. Realize it is hot but do things actually close down as some guide books state "making Rome a ghose town?" Also, will be staying at the Capo D'Africa....has anyone stayed there? Best bet for airport to hotel? Any other hints or tips would be appreciated! Ciao!

Ciao!

Rome in August is way better than no Rome at all!

And lucky you, it seems folks really liked your hotel. Check out reviews here.

For getting to Rome, if you're burdened with huge and many suitcases (but why?) and if you're traveling with 2 or more friends, then a taxi makes sense. (Only take official taxis.) Otherwise, the train is a cheap and good alternative. See my explanation on how to take the train from the airport here.

There are also airport shuttles, though I've never taken them. Perhaps some other VTers can comment.

As for other tips, many members of VT (including me) have created tips on Rome. You can check them all out by starting here.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the tips.

If it gets really hot, stop for gelato (ice cream), TWICE!

Have a great trip!

I've been in Rome twice in August (most recent 2 years ago. If that's what it is like as a "shut down Ghost town" I shudder to think what it is like when people are there. I found it hot, humid, and in general about as crowded as I would expect any large city.

Vallelde (I think I spelled that right), if you will look at your home page above your personal data, you will see a link (in very small print) called "Latest Forum Postings". Click on this and you will see that you asked the same question in the World forum this morning at 9 am (your time? California time? I don't know) - since it was in the World Forum, this is probably why you couldn't find it - besides, no one answered it anyway.

Listen to Cristina about Rome - it's all good advice...Rome will be hot and sunny in August, but not a ghost town!

Rome is never a ghost town. True, there's not too many romans, but you'll find everything you need. And yes, it's much emptier than usually :o)
From the airport take a train into Termini and then grab a taxi from there or continue by metro / bus (not sure where it is). Don't take a cab from the airport as it's going to cost you more than your flight.
Cheers,
mac
