Family with young child great stay at Des Artistes
We found the hotel perfectly adequate, very homely and welcoming. It had everything we needed. Including free internet.
Breakfast was fine with a good variety of food and we had the breakfast on the terrace on top roof. Fantastic! Couldn't`t been better. The elevator is small but works well.
The position of the hotel, a short walk from the Termini Station, absolutely could not have been better. There are even some very good restaurants near by.
The room was very nice and clean, modern bathroom, good air conditioned and big enough for the three of us.
The staff was very professional but on a personal level, very friendly and helpful. And the best of all they all speak English. They made our stay in Rome a pleasant memory. Thank you!
The area around the hotel was nice and quite. We will definitely stay there again.
Hotel Des Artistes deserve those 3 stars and a bit more. Highly recommended!!

Walking distance to termini
This was our first trip to Italy and our first night of our vacation. This hotel was low budget, but the room and bathroom were actually decent in size. We had a queen sized bed with a tv, horrible view, and no alarm clock. The staff was helpful, the hotel is close to the Metro, and walking distance to the train station.
Unique Quality: We were in the annexed building which was about 2 doors down from the main hotel. This was fine with us. Not sure which building had better quality rooms.

Unfortunate attitude problem
The accommodation just does not reflect that shown in the website. It is shabby genteel, and not very roomy. They are quite happy to sell you a "family room" for five and cram extra beds into a space designed for not more than three.
Their cancellation policy stinks, too - we gave them notice "72 hours before arrival time" (their words in their policy) to cancel a subsequent one-night stay in transit through Rome, working on an arrival time of 6 pm. They invoked an entirely inconsistent example shown in their conditions, to say that we should have cancelled 18 hours earlier - 4 complete 24 hour days before the beginning of the day of arrival! Despite our protests they are charging our credit card - which we are resisting!
Unique Quality: Close to Termini, and opposite a very nice little cafe, great for the morning espresso

Bellisimo!
This hostel has a nice lobby to welcome guests, though the reception's on the 5th story, which is a little bizarre. Service wasn't very prompt, nor was the man behind the counter polite when we asked to be checked-in. There's a life, albeit a tiny one, to help transport baggage to the higher floors, so no worries about having to break your back moving luggage.
We stayed in a 10-bed dorm, which was rather basic (just 5 double-bunk beds) and a tad too small (not much space to move around) but it was clean! Blankets and sheets were provided. The toilets were communal (3 bathrooms and 3 toilet cubicles) which beats having an ensuite in my opinion cos it reduces the length of the waiting time to bathe.
There's also a common room with sofas and computers, where you can get free internet access (pretty neat). A great place to meet fellow travellers from other countries!
On the 7th floor is a beautiful rooftop terrace which was nicely decorated. It's the perfect place to relax after a long day of touring cos it's peaceful and you get to watch the stars as well!
LOCATION: The neighbourhood is quiet and can be considered very safe even at night. One can find a supermercato, a gelateria and a couple of pizzarias near the hostel too. The hostel is also located close to 2 metro stations, one of them Stazione Termini, which makes it especially convenient when you arrive in Rome from other cities by train.
All in all, we had a wonderful experience in Hostel Des Artistes and I would return to stay there again if my coin in the Trevi Fountain does its job to bring me back to the eternal city!
Grazie di tutto!! Rome is beautiful!

Very friendly, clean place...
As we travelled in February, we managed to get a nice room in the hotel - and not the hostel - and we thoroughly enjoyed it!
From our arrival on, staff were very friendly and helpful, providing us with a map, pointing out things to see and do and offering advice. They also gave us 2 cards of their own restaurants with discounts. We sampled one of them and were extremely happy with the result (see restaurant tip).
Our hotel room was very clean, with enough space for 2 people to move about comfortably. The cleaning service was excellent, even better than in a 4 * hotel we stayed at in Venice, and when they noticed that my fiance used the spare blanket as a spare pillow, they provided us with a spare pillow each!!
It is probably very busy and much noisier in the summer but I'd definitely go back!
Unique Quality: Our room was overlooking a back yard, looking out on neighbours' balconies. For that reason, it was quiet all day & night.
The breakfast room serves as a bar at night but we were out too much. Also there was internet access in the room which unfortunately they had to give up due to a change in the law. Not sure if/when they can reinstate it.
They also have a lovely roof terrace if you don't mind climbing a few steps! Nicely arranged with small tables, chairs and lots of pot plants for some privacy, it must be lovely to sit in the summer.... we even enjoyed some rays of sunshine up there on our last day!

Great lodging at a great price!
A friend and I recently went to Italy and while in Rome before and after visiting other parts of the country we stayed at Hotel des Artistes. Great lodging at a great price! Location is very convenient to nearby subway, and train station (Termini). Staff is helpful and courteous. The terrace is lovely and the rooms are very clean. Will stay again the next time in Roma.
Thank you staff!

Rome - near train station
Safe, clean stayed at annex (Carlito's Way) upgraded us. Not great by any standards, but clean, safe, friendly, and nice staff and good location for touring.
Unique Quality: Rooftop area to hang out. Also has a hostel portion (for those on a smaller budget).

Clean, Safe, Good breakfast & close to the termini
The Hotel des Artistes quickly became a little haven for us weary women, with a large clean room, good beds, a hot shower w/wonderful water pressure, clean towels, internet access, a wonderful breakfast and a TV with more than one channel to zone out by and practice our Italian ear.
I’m not used to staying by the termini but it became the Mecca of resources and the most perfect location to take care of business with these stranded tourists.
Unique Quality: We were able to drop off laundry close by to get us through the next couple days. The name is Spla Shnet, at Via Varese # 33, owned by an African man but was being run by a young Aussie guy and his mate from Brisbane - or “Bris Vegas” as they called it - we liked them, very fun and efficient too. For 6 Euros they washed, dried and folded our clothes ( gotta love a man who will do this for a you) hence turning us into new and improved people

Hotel des Artistes
When we arrived in Rome, we had no idea where we were staying, but the adress. So I decided best thing with all our luggage was to grab a cab. What an experience that was. The hotel is centrally located and affordable. Staff is generally helpful and friendly. Tiny elevator that isn't always available can be minor inconvenience in 5-story facility, but fortunately we were on the 1st floor. Note that this is both a hotel and a hostel. Hotel rooms are unusually nice but priced with other *** hotels. Hostel rooms are much cheaper, but they are not hotel rooms.
Unique Quality: Unusually nice rooms. Rooftop terrace.

Hotel des Artistes - 3 star...
Hotel des Artistes - 3 star hotel close to the termini. Very good value, and the rooms are extremely comfortable. Recommended if you want 4 star rooms at 2/3 star prices. Well connected to the main sightseeing areas by the number 40 bus - about a 5-10 minute ride to the Piazza Navona.
65 Euros/night for a double room with breakfast (coffee, orange juice and a croissant)
Unique Quality: We had a double room which worked out to about 65 Euros/night. Excellent value as the room was very comfortable and clean, with a good sized bathroom. I looked in on a couple of the other rooms and they were all of a similar high standard. There's a roof terrace, bar etc.
Breakfast is nothing special, and we ate out at one of the many cafe bars in the area.

HOTEL DES ARTISTES
Hello travellers!!
After waiting for one year, finally I'm going to take a plane and have some fun taking pictures of one of the most spectacular cities in Europe; ROME.
My boyfriend booked at the Hotel Des Artistes (not the hostel), it looks good at the pictures at their website, and its location seems perfect.
Now the question, any roman around here or any vt had the chance to stay there? Was it a good experience? I do really hope you all tell me it is worth it!! hahaha
Thanks in advance!!
Keep smiling!

Re: HOTEL DES ARTISTES
Hi Montse,
Actually, my friends and I stayed there once before. That's the hotel just a few blocks away from the Stazione Termini, correct?
I remember it being a decent hotel with comfortable rooms. The neighborhood around it isn't the greatest, not much around there, so they have tight security where they buzz you in and out at the entrance.
The metro stop is right nearby which was nice.
We booked it because it was a good rate and was close to the station.
It was a pleasant stay from what I remember!
Have fun,
G_G

P.S. I don't know anything about the place, but it does seem to have the best hotel website I've seen in quite a while...
