We were impressed with how close this hotel was to Termini railway station, yet how reasonable the price was. It is located in a picturesque street and within walking distance of many monuments and beautiful neighbourhoods. We stayed on a high floor which had a nice view of the surrounding area. The staff were extremely helpful and wanted to ensure we enjoyed our time in Rome. I would recommend this hotel to young travellers and couples.
Hotel Fawlty Towers: Great Location Near the Train Station

Some friends and I spent one night in this hostel during a weekend in Rome this past May. The location was the best feature as it was a two minute walk from the main train station and subway station in Rome. This location meant that we were within a 15 minute subway ride to any of the major sites in the city. The night we stayed there it was quite noisy, but this was the only significant drawback. The price for three of us in a clean, private room was reasonable. The front desk was also very willing to help us with any arrangments we needed to make. All in all for the price this was a great place to stay.
Again, the location was the most outstanding characteristic of this hostel. You may also enjoy a bit of adventure on the "lift" if you decide the stairs aren't for you.
Hotel Fawlty Towers: Not as bad as the name might suggest...

Catering for budget travellers, Fawlty Towers is a basic but comfortable hotel on the top floor of a townhouse near Termini station. It takes its name from the famous English comedy of the same name though there the similarities end. The staff were very friendly and helpful and as most of them were Australian or New Zealanders there were no language issues at all for us.
There was a nice terrace where you could sit out and eat or drink, and they also let you store your food in the kitchen. The rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. Air conditioning wasn't up to much but otherwise it was fine. At 62 euro for a double (as of July 2003) it was good value and a place I'd recommend for those looking for value and not too concerned about luxury!
Fawlty Towers offers dorm style accomodations as well as private rooms with private baths. I opted for the private room which was small, clean, comfortable and quiet. The only drawback is that the private rooms are about four blocks from the check-in desk. However, with that said, you are within walking distance of most sights in Rome. I walked to the Forum in less than 30 minutes. FT is five minutes from the train station and five minutes (in the other direction) from Castro Pretoria where you can board a Start bus for other Italian destinations.
