Having lived in Rome now for 6+ years, we tried many different sources - found this one to be very reliable and there is NO agency fee!

You wouldn't happen to know a similar type site for Florence?

Thanks,

Mark

Re: Rent a place for a month

ive used rentalinrome.com for my rome apartment reservation. Very helpful and good communications. They also have apartments in Florence.

But i used an apartment from www.vbro.com for Florence (found a better rate and location on vbro. Problem is you have to do the search yourself)

Slight correction - the site is VRBO.com - Vacation Rentals By Owner - in fact, I use this site to rent my Palm Springs condo - you will deal directly with the owner in most cases.

ah thanks for that correction. i didn't even notice. sometimes its not good when your fingers type fast. www.VRBO.com is correct.

Travel Tips for Rome

Map of main sites & areas

by henry14

If you havent a guide book or map, this online map will help give an idea of where the main sights are in relation to each other, to help your planning.

Select the sight from the list on the right of the page and it will put it on the map for you. You can zoom in to see the area in more detail if required.

FRESH FRUITS AND VEGETABLE MARKET

by travelgourmet

Rome has great sights, great restaurants, and great outdoor markets. PIAZZA CAMPO DE' FIORI has a fantastic market every morning except Sunday and the fruits and vegetables are a sight to behold and also to buy.

Nothing like a fresh fruit in the morning to awaken the palate to all the culinary delites that await you the rest of the day and night in romantic Roma. The market at the piazza is located between the Piazza Navona and Ponte Sisto, the bridge over to Trastevere.

Make sure you return in the evening to this piazza to see the transformation of the outdoor market to a glorious palate of sight and sound as the lights bounce off the walls and the music fills the night.

Surprising view of St. Peter's Cupola

by abarbieri

For those who would like to get a better view of St.Peter's Cupola, I suggest to get to Via Piccolomini. Due to an optical illusion it seems huge but this changes when you move towards the Cupola itself.
By car/taxi it takes about 10 minutes to get to Via Piccolomi from the Vatican.
On YouTube you can watch an abstract from Antonioni's movie "L'Avventura" where you can see Via Piccolomini in the 1960:

On very nice place in Trastevere, just a minute from Garibaldi bridge. Delicious food, wine, nice people. all appetizers - carciofi, melanzane, formaggio
pastas, pizzas, salads, and of course home red wine.
