Tours in Rome

by happydancer

We will have one full day to see Rome and feel like it would be best to arrange a tour of the city a half day tour. What tour companies can you suggest or tour guides that will take us around the city? Thank you.

Re: Tours in Rome

I offer this up humbly as we only had a little over 3 days to "see" Rome and barely scratched the surface. Just as the saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day", it's a difficult city to absorb in one. I might suggest that you probably have a heart's desire to see a couple of things - close your eyes and think. Colosseum? St. Peter's? Forum? Pantheon? Maybe you just pick a couple of things and really take some time to explore them? It's so frustrating to finally, finally be in front of something you've waited your life to see only to be whisked off to something else just when it got interesting? Just a thought. Rome is a terrific city to experience on foot vs a car, cab or bus - you really get a feel of how old and lovely it is on a wander through the streets.

thank you Goodfish, I am trying to come up with a tour that would cover as much as possible for my friend. She has never been to Rome and I have and luckily had 8 days to explore and we did it by metro, bus and foot. Which is really the best way to me. So I think I will book one of those half day tours and do the ancient sites and then we can take the metro to the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, etc.

Travel Tips for Rome

Receiving Mail

by aliante1981

Everybody (well, almost!) likes receiving letters - I certainly do, though there are other, more modern and efficient means of communication - e-mail, phone, and such like. However, if you simply like getting letters or if you need, say, the originals or paper copies of some documents sent to you while you are on the move, you can use the poste restante service. Your best bet is to use the American Express service, which is available for free to clients - you should hold either their card or travellers cheques. They are reliable and present in all major cities.

Household items clothing perfumerie

by Paisleypaul about coin

Department store probably similar to Frasers in the U K or JC Penney in the US, branches throught Italy and a total of six in Rome. The two we visit frequently are on the Via Cola di Reinzo which runs from the Tevere towards the Vatican, which has a basement supermarket, and the one by San Giovanni Metropolitana station (pictured).

Remember it is pronounced with two syllables - co-een

A great shop for finding the unexpected I always come back from my travels with a local cookbook - in coin I usually but some cooking utensils, such as an avocado corer last time I think! Average

the best ice-cream in town!

by sandrasun about Luna di Roma ice-cream shop

Never seen such an ice-cream shop before. VERY NICE SET. the area for ice-cream looks like artic landscape covered with ice with penguins so nice to seem real. the caffeteria looks more like being in the Grand Canyon. All the ice-cream is beautifully decorated and looks fresh and genuine my favourite tastes: MONTBLANC, CHOCOLATE, CINAMMON, PISTACHIOS, LUNA DI ROMA (ricotta cheese, honey and pistachios), MOON AND STARS (chocolate with chocolate biscuits and cream) and all the FRUIT ICE-CREAM which is made of real fruit in season. I love BANANA (tastes of fruit and not of big-babol), FIGS, MELON, PERSIMMON (just a few weeks), PEACH (summer only)

Peace & silent oasis

by mauro_pd about Caffe' Doria

Hangin around Rome can be funny, but after a while you realize it is tremendously noisy :-( ... I was doing that cause I was well ahead of a business appointment and I found this bar/coffehouse just 5 minutes walk from Piazza Venezia; step in and you immediately feel relaxed Cappuccino and a not so bad cake
