Palazzo Living

Though my room was quite small, the helpful staff made up for it. I would stay here again, as the location is fabulous!

Unique Quality: Hotel Marcus is located on the 2nd floor of a 16th century palace, a mere 600 m. from the Spanish Steps. Castel Sant' Angelo and Piazza Navona are also quite close. Amenities include a breakfast room, elevator, fax service, and air conditioning (upon request).

Staying in the Navona region- good idea?

by glsn

Hi everyone!

Has anyone heard of the Hotel Genio in the Navona area in Rome? Any comments would be appreciated.
Navona seems like a central area. Anyone stayed there before? Is it a good area to stay at? We want to do some sightseeing, enjoy food/wine, shop (maybe).
Thanks!

Never been to Hotel Genio, but the Piazza Navona area is a very central area. The Vatican, Castel Sant'Angelo, Piazza del Popolo, the shopping areas near the Via del Corso, the Pantheon, and a lot of other stuff is within a radius of a few hundred meters (more or less). You will like staying in this area. Plan on walking a lot; Rome's a good city for it...

I have not heard of that particular hotel, but stayed in the Piazza Navona area this past September. It was a wonderful location, close to everything -- restaurants, monuments/sights, the Tiber, and shopping! It's obviously a lively area, too!

Thanks for the advice :)
Where did you stay when in Rome?

I lived in Rome twice - once near the Raccordo Annulare (the ring road around the city) near the Via Aurelia, and once outside the Raccordo down the Via Appia.

The only time I stayed in town was at an apartment in 2000 near the Vatican - nice place, but more suitable for people who want a kitchen and are willing to pay for it.

Piazza Navona is really neat to walk around in during the evening, when all the Romans (and a number of tourists) are out having their evening promenade. It is definitely a place to people-watch.

I stayed at the Hotel Marcus, which is in a 16th-century (?) palazzo. My room was small, but the location was perfect and the guys at the front desk were relatively helpful when I was looking for a particular wine bar, as well as other places. I could easily walk to Piazza Navona, Castel Sant'Angelo, and the Spanish Steps.

When I was in Rome before, I stayed at Hotel Spring House, about 5 minutes (or less) from the Vatican. The hotel was fine, though my room was a little dark! The area is a bit more industrial/residential, but I just wanted to be closer to the central part of town this time around.
