Pis-on-ya Palace Hotel

The rooms were awful, the service was awful, and the food was awful. Not a place I would reccomend

Four star in Rome???

Advertised as a 4 star hotel - it certainly isn't. It is also a 20 minute bus ride from the City.

However, it cost less than £60 a night for a triple room and the breakfast was excellent.
The beds were very comfortable and clean. The restaurant, 20 euros for the 3 course menu meal, was top class. Ask for the children's meals. 6 euros 50.

The hotel is on Via Della Pisana and has a shuttle to Fiumicino airport but not to Ciampino (Ryanair's base in Rome) and the journey to this airport is a nightmare!

Unique Quality: We had asked for 2 triple rooms together, but they weren't available so an extra bed was added to a suite and we also had a double room next door.

This was ok, but the suite was a little scruffy with loose and potentially dangerous carpets.

Good - Price, Restaurant, Staff, Breakfast

Not so good - Distance from town, rooms,

Nice Hotel with a convenient bus stop right in front. There are frequent buses that cost under 1 euro. Overall, quite a reasonable place to stay at while in Rome!

Has any stayed there? How far is it from Rome center? can one get there via metro or train from hotel? We should be arriving on the 17th and stopping before flight to Sicily

I have not been to this hotel, but I used to live a few kilometers west of the hotel. This hotel is not in the city center, as I guess you know.

It is about 4.5 kilometers to the nearest Metro station - the hotel website suggests taking the 881 bus up to the Cornelia Metro stop (in the Largo di Boccea area). The 98 and 98X buses uses to run up and down the Pisana to the city center...I'd have to look them up to see if they are still running.

The hotel's website (http://www.newpisanapalace.it/comearrivare.html) also suggests that they have a private shuttle to the city center...wherever they think that is (the problem may be cost and how often it runs).

To look at the 881 schedule, you might try to use the ATAC website (www.atac.roma.it) and click on the Union Jack, then 'route planner', then 'route calculator' (I am doing this from memory). Enter a sensible time and date, then enter your starting address, then enter 'largo di boccea' (a piazza next to the nearest Metro station)...you might try other addresses in the city center just to see what the results are...
