Hotel Romance- clean and welcoming

Chose Hotel Romance Rome after reading the reviews. The location is excellent 5 minutes from the Colosseum and Roman Forum. The staff is very welcoming. One of the receptionists is from London.
Breakfast was continental with plenty to choose from.
Above all the hotel is clean, apparently it opened in 2010.
Would love to return in the future.

Can you reccomend a place to stay in Testaccio neighborhood of Rome

Looking for a simple, safe, place for 3 to stay.

Nothing fancy ... just a place to sleep.

www.venere.co is a good site for finding Italian hotels, with some b&bs listed too.It is reliable and has good mapping and honest guest reviews. www.booking.com is also good.

You might also look at http://www.bbplanet.com/accommodations/rome/

Travel Tips for Rome

Sandwiches and soft drinks

by Frisbeeace

During the warm season you will be thirsty all day as you walk Rome. And soft drinks may be incredibly expensive depending on where you get them. So here is the tip: avoid street refreshment carts which charge up to E 3.00 for a small Coke bottle. Find a supermercati o alimenti store. You can buy cold Coke cans there at E 0.50 and E 0.80 respectively. Same with sandwiches for your lunch.

There is a supermercati in the tunnel that connects Piazza di Spagna with Via Veneto. We used to get our groceries and refreshments there.

Another great point is right on Fontana di Trevi. It's called L'Antico Forno on Via delle Murate 8. Soft drinks cost E 0.80 there and just outside are sold for E 2.50!!

Olympic stadium

by wodensson

Sport.
On the sunday we arrived Lazio were playing Reggina. I was told you could get match tickets from places displaying Lottomatic logo. After trying 5 with no luck we gave up and headed for the ground. Where i was also told you could get match tickets. Had no luck there either.
Get the metro to Ottaviano, walk across the main road, going the opposite way to the Vatican. Catch a 12 bus and after 10 - 15 mins you will be at the Olympic stadium. When you see the river you know you are there.
We managed to get a ticket for 25 euro off a tout for the game. Met some great Lazio lads in the curva nord and had a great day. A season ticket for Lazio is 120 euro incidently!!!!
On the wedesday we was there Middlesborough were playing Roma, so we decided to go to that. Went into the Roma club shop and got a match ticket for 10 euro, just had to show our passports. You can do the same in the Lazio club shop for getting match tickets.
This was totally different as a English team was playing, lots of fighting and the police were heavy handed.
The game finished at 11pm. We was kept in the stadium until 1am, then packed onto buses like sardines, left on them til 2am, then drove to a park in the middle of nowhere and booted out at 3am, and left to it.

Baby Shoes

by nicolettart about La Cicogna

Childrens's shoe store. I found a great pair of platinum metallic leather maryjanes on sale here. I was in Rome in November, so there were some good deals. 29 Euro was a great deal for shoes that regularly sold for 55 Euro.

Ristorante

by blusky about La vecchia Roma

typical Italian restaurant, lots of small tables, owner in the great mood, little bit of red wine and some typical italian pasta...
pizza is also available...nice bruschetas, delicious bread... pasta

Piazza Navona

by globetrott

There are many great restaurants around piazza Navona - its one of the favorite places I had in Rome, watching out for pics...

...BTW, the water from the fountains is DRINKABLE -

Its " Aqua potabile " Piazza Navona is NO area for tourists on a budget - check out the prices first, before you get a seat in one of the many garde-restaurants there.

Just a few meters further in a side-street you may find much cheaper places...

BUT whan you do not have to care for the price - Piazza Navona is just a perfect place for a lunch or dinner !!
