Taxi from Ciampino Airport to town (Vatican)

by 1W1V

Hi,

I am going to Rome this May. As I travel with my family, I plan to take a taxi from Ciampino Airport to our hotel which is located not to far from the Vatican.

Can anyone give me information about the availability of taxis in Ciampino and the price which is likely to be asked for the trip to town.

Thx

L

Plenty of taxis at Ciampino airport, although you could pre-book one if you prefer.

That way you would get a firm quote beforehand.

E.g. http://www.airportconnection.it/ciampino_taxi.html

There is a set price from the airport (and Fiumicino) to anywhere within the Aurelian Walls (though I am not sure your hotel will fall within this area). That was 30 euro from Ciampino in mid-2008, so will almost certainly be more now.

Yes, please tell us your hotel's exact address, as the Vatican is on the edge of the zone for which the 30 fares are valid (yes, J, I believe it is still 30 euro). Since the Vatican is physically on the other side of town from Ciampino, if you go on the meter, it is likely to be noticeably more than 30 euro (40? 45? could be worse if he takes the ringroad - often faster but longer - depends on the time of day)

The hotel is b&b capricci romani : this is the approx location :

50 meters from Castel S. Angelo and about 100 meters from Saint Peter's Square and Vatican Museums. Crossing Castel S. Angelo's bridge you can easily reach piazza Navona and Pantheon and, walking some minutes more, piazza di Spagna and Fontana di Trevi.

Thx

According to the map at ATAC (http://www.comune.roma.it/was/repository/ContentManagement/node/N183383046/confini.pdf), your hotel is within the Aurelian Walls...so you would be eligible for the 30 euro fixed fare (plus perhaps small extra fees for extra luggage, etc.)

You might want to bring a copy of this map on paper as well as the address of your hotel (also on paper) to show any doubting taxi driver...;-)

Travel Tips for Rome

LION SHORTAGE AT COLOSSEUM

by JohnnySpangles

Greatly disappointed at the absence of lions at the colosseum. All I could find was this manky cat. Be warned, films like 'Gladiator' create a totally false impression of Rome. I couldn't get tickets for a single gladatorial massacre..

Circo Massimo

by sinoda

How about running in an old and very historic scenary?

Then you might want to try the famous Circo Massimo which nowadays is just a pale memory if its once so glorious days.

It's only here that I mention this oval and not in the tourist traps for I believe it deserves better.

In Rome there are so many sites that could use some brushing up, but of course there are simply too many of them... Good sneakers and lots of bottled water!

a cool jazz club in Rome

by loudjazz about Micca Club

Anyone fancying a night out in Rome with live jazz and groove and no mainstream tourists could try the Micca club in Porta Maggiore, a stones throw from Termini Station.

We popped over to Rome at the end of November to see Eddie Roberts, who recorded the Salvos ‘Trenta’ c.d, with his red hot funk outfit The New Mastersounds.
The club is situated in a basement on a residential street and the stairs lead down to a very cool club, beautifully lit and kitted out, complete with radio station
The bar staff, in 60’s style dresses, mixed nice strong cocktails at 10 euros apiece and you can reserve a table if there is a bunch of you.

After the live bands, the club has a retro music policy based on soul, jazz, funk and Italian rhythm and blues and 60’s shake.
We were there on a Saturday when the music was all groovy 60’s Italian, It was great fun people watching, seeing the flirty Romans at play, and the well dressed crowd was a good mix of ages, from 20 to 50.

To guarantee entrance you must log onto their site and email them. You can reseve a table if thetre are enough of you (don't know how many). The entry was cheap and the STRONG cocktails were all 10 euro's. The dress was casual in the Italian style i.e not 'street', I did not see one pear of trainers/sneakers in the place!

Trust the chef

by markapollo about Trattoria lo Scopettaro

This is a small local restaurant located at Pyramid of Cestius area of Rome right beside the Tiber river. The place is small but the service is very special and personal. Great food and wine. It's a must when you are in rome. I spent 25 Euros for me but thats a 5 course meal with desert and a bottle of wine compliments of the owner. When in italy...Pasta.......and Presciutto........

A good pizza

by Sarita76 about Le maschere

A quiet and simple place where you can spend a nice evening eating good pizza and good fried stuff such as supplì, fiori di zucca, olive ascolane and some more... My pizza capricciosa was pretty tasty and the good thing is that they don't use too much oil.
