More about Hotel San Francesco

A good recommendation from a local

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Hotel San Francesco in Trastevere was recommended to me by an old friend who has lived close by for over thirty years - she should know. The rooms were quiet & comfortable and the breakfast was ample and elegantly presented. There is also a pleasant rooftop bar.

Perfect launching point for Great Rome Holiday!

by A TripAdvisor Member

Wonderful hotel in Trastevere. Just enough off the beaten path to afford a break from the bustle of Rome but convenient access to all the sites (we walked everywhere).

Staff was extremely courteous and helpful (both before and during our stay). Roof bar an unexpected luxury and excellent way to unwind after a busy day of sightseeing.

Good clean rooms and premises. I would highly recommend the Hotel San Francesco to anyone visiting Rome.

what a find!

by TripAdvisor Member hesterra

What a find! I found Hotel San Francesco on the internet and was completely charmed by the website. What joy and surprise to find that the Hotel exceeded it's website parameters, in service accomodations, location and views. The decor was very chic and to find Hawaiian Obake anthuriums on the grand piano in the salon was a great first impression. The rooms were smalll but completely enhanced with all needed amenities. The shower was hot, the bidet wonderful and we housed 4 of our family in one room and two in another. We found the best part on the 4th floor terrace - open to the warm July sky and a beautiful panorama of the city of Rome. We still had very little noise, as we were in the Trastevere area -away from the bustle of the city. We walked a few blocks to grab a taxi to the Vatican and were there within 10 minutes. We were also just a 10 minute ride from the train station - yet never heard the trains. We had a glorious breakfast buffett each morning, complete with eggs and cooked prosciutto and bacon. The fruit was fresh and sweet. We went straight to the Trevi fountain the first night and then walked some of the back streets until we found a wonderful family restaurant for dinner - no crowds! The house wines by the litre are always the best!!!
The hotel recommended the Zodiac restaurant - up on the hill overlooking all of Rome - for our second night. Thet also got a taxi for six of us - which is very rare - we normally had to take two taxis everywhere. We left our bags almost all day - after we checked out to go to St Peter's. The service was outstanding in all aspects of the hotel and I hope to visit Rome again soon. I highly recommend Hotel San Francesco for family and for a romantic adventure for two

Grazie, Daniel

Hotel San Francesco was definitely one of the highlights of our four week tour of Italy. You never know for sure what you'll end up with when booking on the net, but this hotel exceeded all our expectations.

The staff are very helpful and friendly, the rooms clean and comfortable. Trastavere is well positioned for lots of Rome's attractions, and most of the local cafe's and restaurants serve good food and even greater wine, although we found the smaller ones better value and more fun. Stay away from the Indian restaurant around the corner though, they made grosso money out of our party!

We'll certainly return next time we stay in Rome. Thanks Daniel.

No problem at all!

by A TripAdvisor Member

I wanted to stay in Trastevere when in Rome and found this jewel through this site. I had a great time staying at Hotel San Francesco for 4 nights in mid-August, 2004. Everything was flawless at this petit hotel. The room was large and very clean, the facilities modern, great breakfast with eggs and bacon and fruits and lots of cakes, the staff reserved and quiet but very helpful and professional. The location is couple of blocks away from the touristic area of Trastevere, so it is quiet and good to relax. The buses and trams stop nearby and they come frequently, making it a tasteful area to stay, unless you are a very busy visitor intending to see all the main attractions in one sweep. And you can go and see Bernini's Ludovica everyday in the church next door! I can easily stay here again!

Great location!!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel's location in Trastevere might be a minus for some, but it is a very enjoyable walk to most major areas of interest (plus Trastevere itself is a joy). The hotel offers the small rooms that are so typical for Rome hotels, but teh bathroom was spacious, the room was clean and relatively quiet (even with a street-side room), the staff was helpful, and the price, while not cheap, was also not terribly expensive (again, by Rome standards). All in all, when we return to Rome, we will definitely look into getting a room at the San Francesco again.

FANTASTIC LOCATION

by TripAdvisor Member Dolphin100

I stayed here for four nights in July 2004 with my mum. Absolutely loved it. This was my second trip to Rome and whilst I adored it first time round there was so much to take in, so much walking and so much sunshine that this time round I wanted to "come home" to a more relaxed less touristy environment. Well what a surprise I had in store 5 mins from the hotel hundreds of cafes, restaurants, a beautiful old church and a lovely square. Never paid more than 30 euros for a meal for two with wine and deserts and was surrounded by Italian families enjoying their evening. Wonderful. The hotel itself was great, bedroom was fine nothing spectacular but the bathroom was huge airy and fabulous. However it was the roof terrace that capped it all - we began every evening with a glass of bubbly sitting in a contemporary haven in the middle of Rome - amazing. Would definately recommend it and would definately stay there again. 20 mins walk took you to the Vatican along the River although the trams were very easy to use. We walked everywhere and it was so nice each evening to end up in Trastevere. Having stayed in central Rome before there was just no comparison -it made the evenings feel like real holidays as opposed to a city break! You can put away your map and just wander through the happy crowds. So if you want to have the best of both worlds, ancient history and holiday atmosphere then this may well be the hotel for you. I will definately return.

Fantastic Breakfast!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We had a wonderful holiday in Rome and the hotel was excellent. A lovely room with lovely views! We enjoyed the fantastic breakfast selection and also the roof bar at night was very romantic!

The hotel is in a very good place to visit the Forum, Colosseum, Circus Maximus and all the other sights of Rome.

Overall an excellent stay.

Perfect hotel in Old Rome

by TripAdvisor Member kathieann

What more can I say about this charming hotel that others have not already said?
The location is perfect- only a short walk from many great restaurants. Piazza Santa Maria Trastevere is only about a 10-15 minute walk.
Rooms are small but adequate for a short stay. Bathrooms are clean and large for European standards. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was included and consisted of cereals, juices, breads and biscuits. The roof top bar was lovely. We would definitely stay again.

Wonderful terrasse
