Three star near Termini Rail Station
This hotel is worth for it's quality/price ratio. The rooms are very simple, but have everything you need, including cable TV (although in Rome you won't have much time for that, with all the sightseeings).
It's very clean and the staff is friendly and helpful.
The breakfast, although somewhat limited in variety, is satisfying.
Unique Quality: The best is the loction, near Terimini train and subway station, and with lots of bus lines nearby.
The Roman forum and Colisseum is a 20 min walk down the Via Cavour. The bus and subway lines allow to get in most of the locations fast and easy.

Mid Priced Hotel in a Great Location
I did not pick this hotel myself. Instead my travel agent booked me here. To be honest I was somewhat disappointed with the hotel itself. The room had cheap furniture and the pumping was less than adequate. Worse of all was the noise from the street. Each morning I was awakened at 6:30am by the traffic outside on the street. I understand the hotel has been restored since I visited so many years ago, the furniture has probably improved and I hope that they soundproofed the windows. I did find that the staff was quite friendly and very helpful.
Unique Quality: The hotel's location was better than I anticipated so I was really pleased. Who goes to Rome just to hang out in the hotel anyway. So what if the furnishings were below my standards. The hotel is just five minutes from the Santa Maggiore Church and the train station. This latter fact was very helpful for planning my whole trip. The Trevi Fountain, The Roman Forum and the Colisseum were all just a kilometer away. There are also lots of reasonably priced but good restaurants in the vicinity. Perhaps most importantly there are two great pubs, the Fiddler's Elbow and the Druid's Den, just two blocks away.
