Perfect vacation at Hotel Turner

My familly is made of 5 persons. We own a travel agency in Seoul. In May 2006 we stayed at Hotel Turner and had a great vacation. The hotel has an antic style, with antic furniture, marm steps and statues. The rooms we had was big enough for 5 persons and although the location is central we heard no noise from outside. The hotel was doing some construction work in some rooms but we didn't suffer any disturb from them. The last 2 days they changed our room because they had to begin works of modernization in the room, gave us one new room that has just been remodernized with new furniture. The room was very beautiful, bigger and everything inside was new. We were the first to stay in the room. I think the room was the one that's on the main page on their website. The bathroom was fabulous, aristocratic.
Initially I complained for us changing the room, they made us a 10 percent discount, but to tell the truth they did us a favour.
To avoid construction work it's better to go after the 15 June, they said everything it will be ready till then.
The front desk has a lot of good restaurants, so do not hesitate to ask. They are very gentle.
We enjoyed our stay in Rome and probably we'll send other people there. Thanks

We had spent three days at this hotel and were extremely disappointed to the point where, we couldn't wait to get back home from our holiday. In fact, I wish that there was some sort of guarantee in place to ensure that I got my money back!!
The staff were un-pleasant and non-friendly; at the entrance we were given a form to sign, given our keys and told to go to the top floor.. No greeting!! No information!! We even had to leave our bags, go back downstairs and ask for the times for breakfast and for checkout. Staff spoke very limited English and gave us the impression that they would rather much speak on their telephones than deal with the attitude of tourists.
The room was a good size, however it stunk really bad! The bathroom looked clean but was actually extremely dirty and forever not being cleaned with proper disinfectants. There was a strong presence of a sewage smell which meant that we had to have the windows open whilst we were in the room.. (Not ideal when your freezing cold! and there are hundreds of cars speeding up the high road, beeping and shouting at eachother - just underneath your window)
The hotel was located outside of the Roman Walls which meant it was a good 40 min walk into the main centre or a 10 minute bus journey from outside of the hotel. We stuck to cabs which cost us 6 euros to get to Piazza Venezia. (main square)
Another few things were the broken furniture; stains on rugs, sheets and walls; the broken lampshade and cracked ceilings.
I can not go on without mentioning the appalling breakfast which consisted of rolls, croissants, doughnuts, cornflakes, cheese slices and ham slices. Plus tea/coffee or orange juice. Very very limited especially for those who may be allergic to yeast or dairy products!
On the plus side I would like to add that huge form fillings which normally happen at hotels was not required... and therefore Check-in and Check-out was fast and they had no problem with us leaving our luggage in the hotel whilst we were gone after check-out. Plus it is extremely close to the British Embassy (across the road) and the location of the hotel is very easy to find.
However as a final; I would not hesitate in saying that you ought to give Hotel Turner a miss!!

I had already booked the Hotel Turner before I read some of the previous reviews. It was about a 15 minute walk from the Termini station. We arrived late about 2.00 am, rang the bell and were admitted immediately and given our key with the minimum fuss. The room was compact but with everything necessary. We had no view, but no noise either from outside or from other rooms. Breakfast was fine, with orange juice, tea or coffee, bread rolls, croissants, doughnuts, ham, cheese and jams etc - all replenished quickly as necessary. Yes the place has obviously seen better days, and the bathroom smelled permanently fusty, but it was cleaned regularly and the sheets and towels were all spotless, and at least it had a bit of character. We enjoyed our stay in Rome.
Fab little hotel

Myself and my husband have just had an easter break at the Turner Hotel in Rome and loved every minute of it! We were very worried about going there as we had booked it first and then read some of the reviews. The hotel was a little bit out of the main area but hey, with the extremely busy city centre, we were glad of the peace and quite. Transport links to the centre of Rome couldn't have been better. Right outside our hotel was a bus stop with the number 110 going to the Vatican City every 20 minites and the numbers 60, 90, 64 and 86 all going right into the heart of everything. The bus only took about 8-10 minutes too! If you wanted, you could walk to everything which only took around 20 minutes.
We opted for the Superior room which was spotless. We had a great double bed and beautiful baroque style furnishings. The bathroom had a 'cabin style' power shower with lots of lovely toiletries. We had friends who were in one of the standard rooms which was slightly smaller than ours but still just as good, and they had no complaints.
Breakfast was in two ornate rooms, with everything you would expect from a continental breakfast. Warm rolls, pastries, cheese, jam, juice, tea and coffee and was more than adequate.
We really enjoyed our stay at the Turner and would definately book to stay here again, after all this is only a 3 Star hotel so you get what you pay for and we didn't expect to find 5 star luxury.
Flexibility required

On the plus side, the Hotel Turner had a wonderful continental breakfast, consisting of your choice of 3 cereals, assorted fruits and pastries, cappachinos or coffee, juice,meats, cheeses, and great service. The linens were adequate for a hotel of this rating, and the location was perfect - quieter than in the heart of the city, but still in a scenic part of Rome with access to public transportation just outside the front door. The common area is clean.On the down side, there is only an armoire for storage - no closets or drawers, forcing you to "live out of your suitcase" for the trip. TV in English requires an additional fee. If you do stay here, bring your own iron - there are only 2 in the whole hotel, and hours can go by before the staff can track them down. Be careful with 110v electronics; the wiring is such that even using a converter to the European voltage system doesnt provide adequte service and some of ourelectronics were burned out entirely. The hairdryer is an antiquated hose styyle. However the biggest downfall is the shower. It is literally 2 feet by 2 feet with a NON-adjustable showerhead only, forcing you to turn the water on and off several times through the shower. People of greater than average height or weight will not be able to even fit in the shower area. The shower appears to be an afterthought in the planning. It seems as though it was added to rooms after the hotel switched from being whatever it was before being a hotel. There is mold growing in the shower area, trashcans are emptied when near full rather than daily, and there was a cigarette burn on the breadspread. For $200 US dollars/night, I expected a bit more.
A very helpful friendly hotel

We stayed in this hotel for three days while in Rome with Magnum Travel. From the first greeting we found the staff to be very helpful and friendly. Some of our fellow travellers did upgrade to Superior rooms and they had no problems doing so. We, however, stayed in our standard room but found it to be compact and quite adequate. The room was cleaned each day and clean towels provided, the bed while small was very comfortable. Our room didn't have a good view as it faced the side of the hotel which, though very elegant, is like a labyrinth of corridors as it is squashed in between other buildings.However,it was consequently very quiet away from the noise of the constant Rome traffic. We couldn't hear the plumbing from any of the other rooms which we have always found annoying in other hotels.
It is within a couple of miles walk to the centre of Rome and is very well served by public transport.
Best of all, my husband left his jacket in the wardrobe and the staff found it immediately and had it delivered,via Magnum, to the Airport some 40 minutes drive away before our plane left. What service!
I would stay again in this hotel and I would recommend it for a short budget break.
Terrible, dark hotel

Definitely one of the worst place in Rome. The room was definitely narrow and small. The only window overlooked the stairs of the building nearby...It was always dark in the room, even the artificial lights weren't enought! The breakfast was served by a very rude girl in another small room. One day we waited for half an hour to have a table, but there was anything left to eat (at 9 o'clock in the morning!!).
It is a quite old hotel with very kitsch furniture and even not too clean!
Definitely I won't stay there again.
