The wonderful grief angel and the secret keyhole
by crazyforrome
I've been in Rome 12 times by now...and each time I discover a new marvellous thing to see or do. Just want to suggest all romantic visitors to go and see the Strangers Cimitery in Rome, also called Artists and Poets Cimitery. Above all, you can admire the so called Grief Angel, made in 1895 by the american sculptor William Wetmore Story for his wife and representing a crying angel so true and communicative that an indeed let you feel Story's grief from the inside. Another tip I can give, is: you have to go and visit the "Giardino degli Aranci" it is 5 minutes walking from the Colosseum, in a small hidden road, where from the huge dark (always closed) entrance door of a monastery, from its small keyhole you'll see the infinite dream of a decorated garden full of orange trees. Last suggestion I might give: you can find very cheap beautiful apartments on rental in Rome, especially if you are a group more then 4 people, this is absolutely the most convenient accommodation, low prices and central location!
I would indeed recommend Apartment Mario dei Fiori that I rented with Cityapartments. In normal boring working days I really miss the taste of a hot coffee cup freshly made in Sant'Eustachio Coffee Shop, next to the Pantheon, and when eating out in Basel to taste the so called Italian cuisine, then I would really like to be in my favourite roman restaurant: Roma Sparita, in Trastevere, where you can enjoy the marvellous typical "Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe" with cheese and pepper, served in a hot huge cheese empty round
Vespa? No.

And another thing that had moved on since I had got my ideas of Italy inculcated.
The ubiquitous scooters were no longer called Vespas. Motorini. (Singular motorino, I think.)
Little motors.
Any language is always moving on of course. Each new generation likes to put their stamp on it.
The little motors were everywhere still. Often ridden by people who were smoking a cigarette and talking on their mobile phone (cellulare).
But I was glad to say I rarely saw someone without a helmet.
Eavesdropping on the train I would hear people on their cellulari say something like -
"Pronto. Certo. Certo. Treno. Cinque. Piazza Venezia. Ok. Ok. Graz'. Ciao ciao."
I had a pretty fair idea of what was going on.
Teatro di Marcello
by sandysmith
This theatre, near the Ghetto area, was almost certainly a forerunner of the Colosseum. It was founded by Caesar and finished in 13-11 b.C. by Augustus who dedicated it to the memory of his nephew and dearest son-in-law Marcellus

Roma Pass is the latest innovation (as of April 21, 2006) by the local gov't of Rome. This pass is good as a ticket to all buses, subways and trams valid for 3 days plus 2 free entrances in museums/sites of your choice plus discounts on your visits to other museums/sites and even in ongoing exhibits and events.
You can get it from any tourist information kiosks (Punto Informazione Turistico-PIT) around Rome or at the museums.
If you are staying in Rome for only 3-days, this pass is definitely very convenient for you. Cost is 18euros.
Vegetarian in Rome!!!
by baronedivandastad about Il Margutta
Amazing! A vegetarian restaurant in Rome that actually manages to make nice stuff! really worth trying. Expect to pay around 20-25 EUR for a light dinner without drinks, which, considering the location, is a real bargain! My favourite was a fried vegetable and cheese plate. Really well presented and excellent aphrodisiac taste.
