by jm34bee

Can anyone tell me what is going on in Rome on January 6th. I understand it is a holiday and i was wondering if everything will be closed or if there will be any celebrations.

Any info would be great!!

Ciao,

There will be an Epiphany Toy Fair at Piazza Navona, with lots of fuss and noise at the end to encourage La Befana to present toys to good children and pieces of coal to naughty ones!

Travel Tips for Rome

How to drink from a fountain

by berenices

In my wanderings across the city, I saw people drinking water from fountains, not with cupped hands below the spout. The proper way to do it is by plugging the spout with a finger, so the water sprays out from a hole or two on the top of the spout. It seems a bit messy at first, and you have to be prepared to have some water splashed on you the first times you do it, but it is actually more practical, and seems more hygienic. You don't have to wet both your hands (which may not be so clean to start with), and you don't have to bend that low or make too much of an acrobatic pose to drink from cupped hands without spilling too much water. It takes a bit of practice though.

Fontana del Mosè (Moses Fountain)

by Sarita76

I think this is one of the most "forgotten" places in Rome. Why? Because of its high traffic location (Largo di Santa Susanna, near Via Barberini), people seem to forget the existence of this beautiful fountain, representing Moses.

Metro was on strike!!!

by maritoni

Rome has 2 metro lines A & B.. we bought the 7 day ticket at 16euros (good for 7 days) thinking it is a good deal, a day before the strike...

We ended up taking the taxi at 10euros (including tip) per trip towards the Vatican area...

Since the vatican area is a little way off towards the north, it was best for us to take the taxi from our Hotel located in the Condotti area...

Instead of buying a metro ticket, use the cab - especially if you can split the fare with a friend... the taxi can accomodate 3-4 people.

More wine the more we enjoyed

by jelw about Ristorante Thalia

This venue at first looks dreadful. Once inside you go downstairs into a pleasant dinning room. They offer a four course meal with unlimited local wine. Advertised as accompanied by the "Three Tenors" this is actually a number of different singers. Could be a soprano from a production down the street &/or a baritone from Sicily. The quality of the music and food improved the more wine we drank. It was a fun time. Many laughs and of course as it should be with any Operatic performance, some tears. The Cheese plate offered for vegetarians.

My First Sight in Rome...

by coceng

This photo was taken just outside Termini Station where I decided to walk to my hotel instead taking the metro...
It was a great feeling seeing everything around me, that was around 8 am...
Dragging my luggage behind me while a small bagpack on my back, I mesmerized the feelings of being in Rome !
