How do I get to Sorrento by train from Rome

Re: Train Travel

by domenicococozza

Take a train from Roma Termini to Napoli Centrale. At Napoli Centrale just take the stairs to the undeground(metro)and you will find the Circumvesuviana train station. You can take this train to Sorrento for about 2.60 Euros

Re: Train Travel

http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html for trains to Naples.

www.vesuviana.it for the train to Sorrento. Journey time from Naples is around an hour.

Re: Train Travel

In case it's not clear, the Circumvesuviana is an independent rail company, so your ticket purchase in Rome will only take you as far as Napoli. You have to buy a separate ticket from Napoli to Sorrento. It's a heavily used commuter line, so you might want to time your trip to avoid peak hours, which can be unbearably packed, and as it's also used by many tourists you should be particularly vigilant of pickpockets.

Travel Tips for Rome

I hear all sightseeing in Rome...

by daarth

I hear all sightseeing in Rome starts at the Colosseum. So it did with me at my short trip to Rome March 2001. I came to Rome for business, but found the time for a lot of pleasure (read: sightseeing, food and wine!) The colosseum was just as amazing as the last time I saw it in 1978. Don’t just see it from the outside. Take a guided tour of the interior and learn all about its history. Worth the money!

The Oranges Garden

by OttoMarzo

"Il Giardino Degli Aranci" is for sure the most romantic location in Rome. Tourists usually don't go there because they don't know it, I don't think it's on touristic guides. It consists in this terrace garden full of trees of oranges where young (and not) couples go to have the most romantic walk you may have on this planet, expecially with sunset's lights. If you're single, you'd better not to go there, you'd be the one single there, and you may have deep sadness attacks! To reach it, just take subway line B Circo Massimo stop and climb the small street up on the Aventino hill.

Very good private taxi service in Rome

by GiorgioVRitaly

I used this service some years ago for several months, traveling every week to Rome.
The service was always great and I gave this info to a lot of other friends in the past.

Since I'm reading here a lot of posts regarding price and safe transport (expecially from women that are traveling alone) from Roma airports - Fiumicino and Ciampino - and other posts regarding daily tours around Rome or transport to Civitavecchia or Napoli, I contacted the company and I hope to help the VT travelers with my infos:

from Roma Fiumicino or Ciampino to downtown EUR 44,00
from Roma to Civitavecchia EUR 130,00

ask for other services: e-mail camorservice@tin.it
quoting flight number and air company and the airport
Fiumicino = FCO
Ciampino = CIA

Someone can find the prices more expensive than a taxi but I think that the service (the driver will wait you into the airport) is good and safe.

A taste of the Italian cousine

by Cristian_Uluru about Raf

Raf Ristorante Pizzeria is a very good restaurant located in the nice neighbourhood Prati, just few minutes by walk from Castel Sant'Angelo and the Vatican.
The restaurant opened in 2006 and it is characterized by a nice ambience with wide windows, very friendly staff and good cousine.
Here you can taste Italian dishes with a touch of class gave by the chef. In the Raf restaurant you can taste Italian dishes and pizza. The last one is very good and you can choice among a long list and if you don't find the one you like you can ask to the waiter and you'll have the pizza of your dream.
The pasta is very good; I can suggest to try Tagliatelle con salmone, provola e semi di papavero, pasta with salmon, provola cheese and seeds of poppy. As main dish I can suggest to taste the grilled beef on a bed make on the fantasy of the chef.
At the end you must try one of the home made dessert!

Domitilla: the "less known one"....

by witness_wannabe

The San Callisto and San Sebastiano catacombs are probably the most famous ones? Domitilla catacombs are located in the same area and are very worthy to be seen, too. You take metro line B, direction Laurentina, and get off at the Piramide stop (4th stop from Termini etc; http://www.metroroma.it/MetroRoma/HTML/EN). Then, you embark the bus line 118, direction Appia Antica to Via Appia Antica. Get off at the stop next to San Callisto. Enter the San Callisto gate and and go to the very end of the walkway, arriving at the San Callisto other entrance on a street almost parallel to Appia Antica. Turn right and follow the signs. Admision price is 5 euros to each catacomb site.
