Rome in Sept/Oct

by anissarjohnson

Hello everyone,

First off I must say I am so happy to have found this sight, much more informative than any others that I've viewed. I'm at the very beginning stages of my research for my 20th anniversary vacation to Europe and I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the weather is normally like during Sept/Oct (we're going from end of Sept thru beginning of October) wondering if I should just pack for spring, fall weather. anyway thanks to anyone who replies you ladies & Gents are wonderfule here. by the way if it helps our trip will consist of visiting London,Paris,Rome and Venice. Thanks

Anissa

Weather should be fine during these two months, September tempereratures around 20ºc or slightly more, and in October slightly, degree or two, less. Rome has a notoriously changing weather, just ask the Italians on this forum they should know, so what was rain and cold in the morning could well be sunshine and heat in the afternoon and the other way around. My experience is that at the end of October the weather starts usually to change to colder and first good rains are about to arrive.

Hi Anissar
Wish I had more info from your profile page.
In any event, I have only been there in late August and early September - quite hot, but I visited those same cities last year on the same trip as well and would be happy to lend some tips with regard to transportation, accommodations, dining, and pubs.

Just let me know and I will prepare something.

Cheers!

Sean

Due to extreme climatic changes the World is experiencing at the moment, trying to predict the weather can be difficult because of local, on the day variations.

We can certainly help you with your planning, but need a little more information, like approximate age, interests, and budget, to give you proper information. Once you give that to us, and have an idea of how much time you have, then we can get into specifics.

Don't worry about whatever questions you have, we have heard them all. Are you loooking for history, or pubs. Touristy places or off the beaten path. Hotels or hostels. Luxury or backpacking. Tours or DIY touring. Rail or car or flight. Fine dining or street food. Or, - are you not sure which ones you want?

The ball is back in your court, - so to speak, - so fire away, we are not going anywhere, well we might be, - but we take our laptop with us so fire away. Good luck planning, it is half the fun........d:o)

Travel Tips for Rome

Have sturdy shoes

by mrclay2000

The city has only two subway lines but is crisscrossed with a well-ordered bus network that will get you where or near to where you want to go. The best exploration is (as usual) on foot. Cabs are unconscionable in Rome. Prepare to walk a good deal.

Evidence of Doing as Romans Do????

by icunme

I've been living here in bella Roma for almost a year now and have seen people late at night - walking along - sipping from wine glasses, beer bottles, highball glasses. Someone please tell me - is this a local custom that's accepted by all - including law enforcement???
*Note we've classified this one as "Wine Tasting" "Culinary Trip"...........

REALLY cool stuff to get!!

by Debbyisontheway about Souvenirs (General)

This cool mask shop is in Sicily not in Rome unfortunately. Got this cool pix from a friend who went there and found this cool shop. I like these masks sooooooooooo much that I wanna share it with you. These cool masks are all hand-made. It's got its own unique shape/style that you won't find it elsewhere. Can be very cool decoration in your house. Cool gift with no doubt! If you come to visit me, I don't mind you bring one or two these cool masks as a gift. Tee-hee-hee.....*_^ My friend paid about 20 pounds for this. (it varies according to the size of course)

Private car hire to/from airport

by bugalugs

On our last day we were given a leaflet of a shuttle airport service. We did not use it because as I said we already had our return tickets for the train. I thought I would mention it as it seems quite a fair price.

Its a 24 hours service. They have vehicles from cars. minibuses and upwards.

Pickup from Hotel or apartment to Fiuumicino or Leonardo Da Vinci airport.
1 or 2 passengers 50,000 lire
3 passengers 60,000 lire
4 passengers 80,000 lire#Each additional passenger add 10,000 lire
For the night service between 20.00hrs to 08.00hrs add 30%

Prices include luggage, air conditioning and service

The best Pizza in Rome ??

by sue_stone about Pizzeria Da Baffetto

I had read all about Pizzeria Da Baffetto having the best pizza in Rome, so of course we had to go there to see if it was true!

Pizzeria Da Baffetto has been around for more than 40 years. It appears that any Italian celebrity that goes to Rome has dinner there and is photographed with the owner - the walls are covered in photos of famous people that have dined there.

We went early to avoid the queues, and only had a short wait before being seated.

Our experience was not that great though.....they got my order wrong, and presented me with an onion pizza - and since I can't eat onion I was horrified and asked them to bring me what I had ordered (obviously they mis-understood my original order due to my dodgy Italian!!).

Anyway, they whisked my replacement pizza out in record time, but it wasn't cooked properly and was swimming in cheese and oil....

So, it turned out to be one of the worst pizza's I have eaten : ((

But hopefully my experience was just a one off......would be interested to hear how others enjoyed their visit to Pizzeria Da Baffetto.
