Great value in a convenient location
We stayed in this hotel in October 2005. Between Santa Maria Maggiore and Stazione Termini, this hotel was last renovated in 2001 and is completely up-to-date. The hotel was great value. We paid an extra Euro20 per night for a double room upgrade to a larger and better insulated room, I would definately recommend to upgrade. The room was above average size by Roma standards and very quiet considering how close to the train station the hotel is located. It was decorated with antiques. The marble bathroom was very nice and had a full bathtub and shower. Our room was spotless and housekeeping did a great job keeping it that way. The breakfast was very good with an assortment of rolls, breads, pastries, cheeses, cereals, juices and coffee. The entire staff was very friendly and worked hard to ensure we had a nice stay. The hotel is located near the main train and bus station, which is great for getting around the city. No need to ever take a taxi, all busses and trains are a few short blocks away. However the area can be a little seedy, especially after 9PM. We never felt threatened or unsafe but its just not as pretty as some of the other areas. Also a big plus was that the hotel offered a free one way transfer to the airport if you book direcly with them. This really saved time after a tiring flight. The limo driver was a fountain of knowledge and really halped us get quickly orientated. We found a great family run restaurant directly across the street from the hotel. Sergio was our waiter at the Trattoria GIOVANNI. 4 course dinner with a good bottle of wine ran Euro30 each. The extensive menu meant we returned several tiimes. All things considered the Morgana is great hotel.
Unique Quality: Walking distance to train station, busses and car rentals.
Well priced 3* hotel in Rome
I booked this hotel thru British Airways Flight and Nights deals before checking its location. It is 5 mins walk from Termini Station, Rome and was renovated in 2004. Termini area is busy, colourful and bustling, but not particularly dangerous but take a little care anyway. Reception, breakfast room, bar & stairway have marbled flooring. Staff were reasonably friendly, helpful and spoke good English. I saw some pics of beds crammed into rooms in this hotel on the internet, but was pleasantly surprised by my Triple Room (Rm.205). It had modern decor with a comfy dble bed and 1 single plus a marble bathroom. There was no view, just next doors roof, but this was not much of a problem for me. Air-con was OK most of the time, maybe a little 'weak'? Rooms were made up everyday to a good standard.
You could pre-order your breakfast items on a card from your room, but on going down they had no record of my request, so we just helped ourselves to croissants, cheese, cold meats, cereal, pre-packed toast, etc. You have to ask for coffee or hot water and milk for tea, and the staff were not always eager to take the order, but generally were quite pleasant. We waited for about 10 mins one morning!.
For the price we paid (app 100Euro/night in Aug 06), and if you don't mind being away from the centre of town, I'd recommend this hotel, particularly with the rail/bus/metro station being conveniently close.
Directions: From ticket hall area take the left side-exit (with trains behind u), turn left, take the first right at the crossing and then first left (Via Filippo Turati), past the touristy, but handy restaurants, the hotel is about 100m on the left.
Nice little surprise on a typical Roman street!
This was a great little hotel that came with the weekend package, and I would definitely stay there again! The staff were very helpful, most spoke English, and you felt like you were staying in a 5 star place!!
Unique Quality: Decent breakfast, I really enjoyed the orange juice!! Of all things.....
It was nice to have north american news on the TV as well, just to catch up.
Directions: walking distance from the Termini Station
More about Morgana Hotel
Very nice hotel--very small double bed!
Spent four nights at the Hotel Morgana. The staff was very helpful with suggestions, making phone calls and answering our questions. Location of hotel is very convenient to public transportation with Termini Station a short five minute walk. We also walked to most of the major attractions. The room was a typical European hotel room, small and cozy. Facilities were fine. The only negative was the bed. It was listed as a double room, but it was the smallest double we had ever slept in!! Breakfast was very good. Would definitely consider the Hotel Morgana during our next visit to Rome.
Very nice hotel and staff with convenient location
We decided to make our european trip and made a stop of 3 days in hotel Morgana, it was a great deal we got for my husband, my son and I a very nice triple room in lately renovated with the gray style, We liked it very much the room was quiet without any noise from outside. The staff was very friendly and helpful , the buffet breakfast excellent and well furnished. The hotel is in a very convenient place near the train and bus station, ideal place to visit the city without problem and just 15 minutes from the Colosseum. Staff will give you all informations required on Shopping areas, places to visit or restaurants.
Wonderful place to take a break and visit Rome.
Pleasantly surprised at how clean and comfortable this hotel turned out to be.
Just returned from a June 1, 2005 visit to Rome where we stayed at the Hotel Morgana. Aside from the booking problem which ruined our stay in Rome, the hotel was great. (The booking company confirmed 4 nights to me but had actually only booked 1 night with the hotel so if we wanted the one additional night they had available it was a much higher price!. We ended up having to cut our stay in Rome in half and rent a car to go out of town to find hotel availability!) Anyway, the hotel and staff were very friendly and as helpful as they could be (considering the problem created by bookings.com). The room was very clean, a good size, and very pleasant to stay in. The location was good, just around the corner from the main bus and train station which made it convenient but the area was not what you would call 'charming'.
Loved it, very clean
I can not think of one complaint about this hotel. It was in a great area. Really close to the termini station (buses, rail, trains). It was very quiet. I felt very safe staying there. Our rooms were perfect. We reserved single rooms and the beds were actually doubles. European hotel rooms are naturally pretty small, but when in Rome...you don't stay in your room. Staff was very helpful. I will most definitely stay here again when I return to Rome.
Bad Service, Cramped Rooms
* Nice Lobby
* Nice Breakfast Room
* Good Service in Dining Area
* Near Many Restaurants
* Near Metro Lines & Train Station
* Bad Customer Service - Can be Downright Rude, Insulting, & Crabby
* Did not have Room Ready at Appropriate Time - Long Wait Times for Room
* Elevator Cramped - Cannot fit More than 2 Persons, cannot fit Luggage
* Rooms Cramped - in a Room for 4, there is NO Walking Space, Beds Pushed Together - would be a Fire Code Violation in the US
* Old & Dark Hallways & Rooms
* Very Stuffy Rooms Despite Large Noisy Air Conditioning Unit in Room
* Surrounding Neighborhood a few Blocks Down near Train Station very Dangerous, especially at Night
* Never got Wake Up Calls at the Requested Time, Always Late
* Staff Not Knowledgable, especially if Help is requested over the Phone
* Not worth the Amount Paid
The proximity of the hotel to some amenties is ok and it had a few decent qualities, but there are so many downsides to this hotel that you should take your business elsewere and enjoy your vacation
Great hotel, very well located the staff were friendly, the rooms were well decorated and comfortable, there was a good range of English channels on the T.V. The breakfast was simple but nice I would reccomend this hotel,
Great trip to Rome, complimented by this excellent hotel. Location ideal, as only 5 min walk from Termini (Metro, train or bus). An abundance of restaurants near by. No feelings of danger in the neighbourhood.
Staff in the hotel were polite and professional.
Breakfast was tasty with a reasonable amount of choice.
Room was well decorated, clean and comfortable.
We required a maintenance man to unblock a bath, from phone call to resolution of problem it too 5 min. Once again done in a polite and professional manner.
I will be traveling to Rome next month and will be staying at the Hotel Morgana-Does anyone know of this hotel and have any comments about it?..Also is it close to any of the major sites of interest?
Re: Hotel Morgana?...
No comments on the hotel, having never been there.
The hotel is off to the side of Stazione Termini (I guess you knew that). As such, it is a short distance to stuff like Santa Maria Maggiore (one of the four major basilicas), Piazza della Republica (a cool place to sit in the circle and have a drink), the Baths of Diocletian, etc. Oh, that low wall in front of the train station is part of the Servian Wall, which dates from the Roman Republic.
The Colisseum is less than a kilometer away, which is at one end of the whole complex in central Rome of the ancient city: the Roman Forum, the Capitoline, the Palatine, the CIrcus Maximus, and so on.
Although places like the Vatican and Trastevere are a long hike from Termini, you will find that the train station also is well serviced by city buses (see www.atac.roma.it) so taking a bus across town will be easy.
I assume you've seen the hotel's website at http://www.hotelmorgana.com/ - the map there is reasonably accurate (for this type of map). For a more accurate map, go to www.viamichelin.com and enter your hotel's address...
