You have to definetely start...
by Davelyn
You have to definetely start early in the morning to make sure that you go to the Vatican & St. Peter's Basillica. It will take most of the day to really get to see everything there.Photo's are not allowed inside but you can still take enough out side & also the Papal Garden. Don't forget the Swiss Guardsand the trip to the Dome on top of St. Peter's. There are so many memories of Rome that only spending a few days there is very unfortunate for many of us North American's,(Canada& USA.) Spend extra time exploring the Colliseum. I missed this because of the short time.
Don't Forget Your Sunday Best!

Bring a rolling suitcase. I know, it's not really backpacking if you don't bring a backpack, but you don't need it for city travel, at least not Rome, and it will be much easier on your back and more comfortable. If you don't want to stand out as a tourist, be prepared by bringing your nicest clothes. Romans wear stilettos to the grocery store and fix their hair to take a walk down the street. Especially the young people, they all look as if they've dropped off the cover of next month's Vogue. Good luck keeping up. Bring disposable cameras! I only brought my really good camera and I did not want to bring it out at night, but oh the fun I never captured! Good thing my travel companion had brought a couple with her!
Via del Corso
by Jmill42 about Via del Corso
Via Veneto might be the more well-known shopping street in Rome, but I prefer Via del Corso. My reasons are not only that it is generally much cheaper, but you can start in my favorite piazza, Piazza del Popolo, walk the full length of the street and end up in Piazza Venezia! Sight see and shop at the same time! Every imaginable type of clothing, for all genders and ages, line the street. Of course, there are great places to eat along the road, but don't waste your money there. Just a few streets off del Corso, you can find great eateries that the locals eat at, and they are almost invariably cheaper.
A histroical note; the length of Via del Corso was used for horse racing. But, not the kind we know. Leave it to the creators of gladiatorial games to invent a cruel way to treat an animal and get some laughs out of it. What they used to do was to drug the horses with a kind of hallucinagenic substance, starve them for food for days, and then put them at the end of the del Corso and let them lose down the track. Drugged, hungry, pissed off horses; hows that for entertainment?
Yeah, me either...
NOT TO BE MISSED when in Rome!
by lululola about Sa Tanca Crostaceria
Was told about this place by a friend of mine who stumbled upon this amazing place in the city centre, near the Opera House and not far from the Forum and Colloseum. He proposed to his wife here - and this place certainly lends itself to that!
A seafood restaurant/oyster bar. Baroque style (black gold and red - very seductive atmosphere!). There is a wine cellar/cigar room below where you chill with a good whisky or grappa. A perfect setting for a romantic meal! Great selection of fine seafood (both raw and cooked), champagnerie and an impressive wine list. The menu is based on traditional Sardinian cuisine which will not
disappoint. The house dessert, Pineapple Ravioli with Almond mousse is just to die for! So perfect in its simplicity...
I would highly recommend this restaurant - and not just for a romantic meal. If you're looking for a sophisticated meal or just to pop in for oysters and champagne before hitting the town, this place is IT!
www.satancacrostaceria.com I am a lover o raw fish so I'd have to say thet the raw fish platters are my favourite! Oyster and prawns a go-go!
However, a classic favourite would also be the Lobster Catalan, poached lobster with olives, tomatoes, celery, potaoes and basil. Absolutely delicious! This is a traditional Sardinian dish.
And of course the dessert, Pineapple Ravioli with almond mousse.
Chinese at P.za Dante

Basic dishes for a decent price
I can't rave about the flavors here, sauces all seem similar and somewhat bland
but the service is very friendly
and the setting is comfortable and nice
we go to this neighborhood place pretty regularly
They don't have hot mustard which Americans may be used to, but they have hot pepper flake sauce you can add I usually get chicken with cashews
my husband always gets the grilled shrimp (about 4 large shrimp)
and shrimp fried rice
