Luggage Storage

by sobbal

We are traveling to Italy in late August. We fly into Rome, on to the Amalfi Coast and then back to Civitavecchia for a cruise departure. We would like to leave our big suitcases in Rome (probably airport) while we spend a quick weekend in Positano. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Re: Luggage Storage

by mccalpin

I would suggest that you probably don't want to leave the bags at the airport, because you have no need to go to the airport on the way from Positano to Civitavecchia for the cruise.

Oh, are you arriving at Fiumicino or Ciampino?

It would be more staightforward to take the Leonardo Express to Termini (the main train station), check in whatever bags you don't want to take south at the Left Luggage ("Deposito Bagagli") at the train station, then take the train south to Naples...and when you come back from the Naples area, you will pass through Termini anyway to go to Civitavecchia, so you can retrieve your bags at that point.

Are you familiar with www.trenitalia.com and riding trains in Italy?

P.S., in case you decide otherwise, there is Left Luggage service on the arrivals level at Terminal 3 at Fiumicino airport, open from 06:30 to 23:30.

Travel Tips for Rome

Oranges!

by anzzz

For someone coming from Finland where we have a meter of snow in February, it is simply amazing that somewhere not so terribly far away there can be oranges growing in the middle of the winter! I never got tired of staring at the orange trees...and photographing them :)

HUGE Ciambellas!

by Jenniflower

Now this was yummy! And huge... so we shared it. :)

I asked my Italian coleague about them and he said they were popular, as were easy to make and filled one up.

They look like a large doughnut, were stucky as had some suger on top.

Ours had no filling, it was plain.

You get them from stands on the side of the road. It cost us 2 euros.

How to find Rome's best deals and secrets

by bigshopper about Made in Italy: A Shopper's Guide

I used Laura Morelli's book, Made in Italy, on my recent trip to Rome. There are invaluable shopping tips and listings of many great places to find traditional handcrafted goods all over Italy.

I recommend it!

Moto or Vespa

by TinKan

If you wanted to risk your life and have a little fun while doing it you could rent a Vespa or Moto and try getting around town.

There are many folks that use the Vespa for their main means of transportation but most look like they are under the age of 20 so they have no fear. I fo one would not try it but if you feel like giving it a go.....GO FOR IT...!!

the best amatriciana

by Lillolo about Maccheroni

It is famous in Rome, as for the coocking as for the location, in Piazza delle Coppelle, where u can drink something before or after dinner in a pleasant and young ambient u HAVE to try the "amatriciana" or the "gricia" pasta.
