Marcel's Show A Must See!
by icunme
Marcel mesmerizes - capitavates - entertains crowds in Piazza Navona. He knows the history of the Piazza as well as he knows the palm of his hands - home to his vast array of puppets. One of the most intriguing shows I have seen - in or out of the formal theatre setting. His family of hand puppets perform joyful animation for you as he interacts with them. We caught his show early on a Saturday evening and he had a crowd of people engaged - a social event in Piazza Navona. We loved him!
Look for him - visit his extensive, entertaining website.
Stunning ceilings.. Do go to the Holy Balcony
by rachel_sun
Stunning ceilings...... Do go to the Holy Balcony on Sunday when thousands of pilgrims go to St Peters Square to recieve thr popes blessing(from the window of the Vatican palace.) Do go to Villa Borghese. The Villa and park were designed in 1605 for Cardinal Scipione Borghese. The park is huge and monuments and fountains are around every corner. There is a boating lake and plenty of people selling drinks and fresh rolls and pizza slices. There is also a zoo.You can look around the Villa from dawn til dusk.Make a picnic up and take it with you,it is a great way to relax. Do go exploring yourself and you will come across so many things.Buy a guidebook and read up on things before you come and decide what you want to see.Do go to the Crypt of the Capuchins,Via Veneto, where they have decorated the crypt with the bones of the dead monks. It is fasinating and spooky.
Metro
by Scarlie
Not my favourite form of transportation, so we avoided it. End of March and the tunnels were already stiffling hot. There is not enough space on the ramps for the number of commuters, it's very cramped, everyone is pushing and elbowing... not to mention the bio-weapons (b.o., etc.) The cars were also too small, but they had a computerised announcement system and the routes were clearly marked (of course, it helpsto know where you are going). Still not as bad as Barcelona or Paris. The ticket was something like a euro or euro and a half for a single journey. Stijn got a little accident while getting into the station - the slot machine got his ticket but the battons didn't turn and as a single journey ticket he couldn't do it again... so he ended up just jumping over the aisle. ;-)

Three Coins in the Fountain
by SFHulaGIrl
It is customary to throw three coins in Trevi Fountain -- one to return, two to fall in love, and three to marry in Rome. The coins are to be thrown with your right hand over your left shoulder. This quaint custom was said to have started in the 18th century.
