Cheap and roomy
This 1 star hotel is located about 5 minutes walk from the central train station in Rome, making it a good base to explore the city.
We had a large double room with a bathroom and although nothing fancy, we were pleasantly surprised at the standard for our money in Rome.
Unique Quality: The room was big and we had out own bathroom, which was good for the price.
It wasn't posh, or squeaky clean, but was convenient and a good base.

It's every budget traveler's dream!
Very friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are clean and have private W/C. It's set up like a hostel but works like a hotel (i.e. they make up your room every morning). Each room has a different decor to it. Makes the room fun.
Unique Quality: Great wall art or decorative wall stenciling. Also, rates are per room, not per person. I thought this was outstanding!

we stayed at the van gogh hotel, right by the spanish steps, like 2 blocks, for 100 euros a night. I can't remember the website, but I easily found it doing a yahoo search.

I'm going with my husband in September - we're staying at the Rome and Italian B&B near the Colosseum (www.italianbandb.com). I found several rave reviews on Rick Steve's website. Marco has been great to work with and is very accomodating.

Accommodation planet29 is located a nice building built in 1900 open all long year, was recently (2005) renovated and has a display of italian modern art and traditional art, is located in the historical centre of Rome, in a quiet neighbourhood of residential mansions and Foreign Embassies with all kinds of shops, internet points,laundries, open air market, a telephone centre, a money changing service, many bars, an italian fast food and just in front there is a very well known typical restaurant. - ten minutes walk from Via Veneto, Colosseum, Spanish Steps and five minutes from the
Train Station Termini
