    Home Away From Home!

    by

A wonderful place to stay, especially a woman traveling alone! The room was very nice, with wonderful old world type windows looking out toward the Piazza Navona. The front desk service, room service and dining were superb! The Hotel Raphael was conveniently located in a quiet area of the Piazza Navona with many wonderful cafe's nearby. I felt very safe at the hotel and in the surrounding area. I could not ask for a more perfect place to stay!

Unique Quality: The exterior of the hotel is covered in ivy over the rust colored walls, which gives it a a wonderfully aged look. The hotel is not huge, therefore you have a nice warm feeling staying there. The rooms were immaculate and the staff were always available for any request you might have.

Directions: Located just off the Piazza Navona. I walked to Vatican City, the Spanish Steps, Coliseum and the Trevi Fountain.

More about Raphael

Fantastic hotel

by TripAdvisor Member quijano

Just come back from a weekend at the Hotel Raphael, Rome. It's position couldn't be better and the staff more helpful. Make sure you ask for a recently refurbished room - my kids had one double the size (with two bathrooms!) than my husband and I! The hotel is very expensive, but it was definately worth the price. The breakfast (not included, and again expensive - 26 euros) was good, and we got a package where the kids went half price. The roof top terrace is beautiful, the restaurant good but again, hideously expensive! To conclude, worth the money (just about) to be able to relax in luxury after long hours of site seeing.

Great Hotel

Granted that we did receive a an upgrade to a fantastic suite (Wedding Anniversary) but that said all the staff on the Front Desk and Rooftop Restaurant were more than helpful. Yes it's not a cheap hotel, but we never mind paying the money when you get the service that we did. Would definately stay again and recommend. The location is also ideal as everything is within a reasonable walking distance (and we're not walkers)

Raphael has Excellent Location in Rome

by TripAdvisor Member KirkandMimi

The Raphael Hotel was a very nice hotel. We stayed as a family in two separate rooms. Unfortunately because of the need for two rooms next to each other, we did not have a good view from either room.

The rooms were clean, and the Service Staff was helpful. We were able to use the free internet in the lobby of the hotel. That was nice for the kids (teenagers).

We were disappointed that the 500 Euros per day that we paid for 2 rooms did not include a daily breakfast - especially since the website said the Junior Suites had views, which was the reason I wanted to go for the Junior Suites, and we did not get one (view) from either room.

We would have been less disappointed had they charged us 572 Euros per day and included the breakfast. Instead, we were given a little card that showed the price per person for a continental breakfast was 18 Euros or for Buffet 26 Euros.

The rooftop restaurant looked interesting, but again was quite pricy, and for us, prohibitive. Had the view been more spectacular, we may have splurged, but the only thing we saw (with the exception of one dome) was spanish style tiled roofs as far as the eye could see. Not that impressive, which is probably the reason the pictures of the rooftop restaurant do not show views, instead they show the tables on the rooftop.

The hotel itself is beautiful. The facade is covered in ivy. It is just off the Piazza Navona which is really fun to visit day or night. People watchers should really enjoy this location. We also had short walks to the Pantheon, the Castel San Angelo, the Vatican, the Trevi Fountain. So the location makes up for any possible negatives.

The lobby of the hotel is warm and inviting (but not too small). The staff was helpful in arranging daytrips for us, and having taxis or tourbuses come pick us up.

The laundry service was nice. They brought back our clothes clean and pressed - but we did pay for it! The robes they let you use were lush and nice - and they offer them for sale when you leave if you like (I kinda wish I purchased one). We were very comfortable in the rooms.

Top marks

Inside this three star hotel is a five star ready to burst out. The rooms are very well kept, the staff could not be more helpful or friendly, the location is perfect for tourists and the food (breakfast and dinner) is excellent. The service, whether requested or offered is fast, efficient, courteous and generous.

Be warned, the ordinary rooms are small or perhaps cosy.

I booked this hotel with some anxiety because I had read some bad reviews.

I valued its location and hoped the rest would not be too bad. The location was excellent and the rest was even better.

Nothing special - look elsewhere

by A TripAdvisor Member

We booked the Hotel Raphael on an internet deal of £180 a night expecting as the offer stated, a five star service. It just didn't live up to that, so I advise any reader if you have the same expectations I would suggest to look elsewhere.

We were given a cell size room which had scruffy and outdated decor. The television and lights flickered off and on and overall it was too claustrophobic for a couple to share a space that size. In fact the welcome note from management was actually written to another single guest which made me think that reception actually put my girlfriend and I in a single room. That's a nice personal touch from a hotel, great customer service!

In short, don't waste your hard earned cash on this place, you will be disappointed if you get a room similar to one we were put into. Who cares about their roof top terrace when you can barely walk around the bed?

Excellent holiday

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have just returned from an excellent holiday here. Were were left without a hotel as a result of the awful Atlante Star hotel (please dont stay there) and they were excellent. We got a suite at a good rate, in a nice hotel close to an excellent location. Close to Piazza Navona it isn't the quietest place but the proximity to all the sites was more than enough to balance this.

Food was good, rooms look to be smallish but v. clean. We will go back and will recomend this hotel to others.

Fabulous Location, Helpful Staff, Tiny Rooms

by TripAdvisor Member aimeezing1

Just got back from a five night stay at the Hotel Raphael off the Piazza Narvona in Rome. Staff could not have been more accomodating, helpful and friendly. Location is fantastic, putting virtually all of Rome within walking distance. Trouble we had was the extremely small size of the sleeping rooms. We have traveled extensively in Europe and are not looking for apartment size rooms, but we had to upgrade our teenagers to the next level room because a basic double was too small for them and their luggage. Very graciously the manager upgraded them to a "suite" which was a lovely room with a queen size bed and a 3/4 size pull-out couch. I would certainly stay there again, but would do more dilligence in making sure we had biggest rooms in the hotel.

A glorious haven

by A TripAdvisor Member

We won a Luxury Link auction for a 5 night package at the Raphael. We are experienced travelers to Rome and have stayed at many Roman hotels, most often the D'Inghilterra. Our stay at the Raphael was perfect. The staff could not have been more accommodating or gracious, despite the fact that we were paying far less than the going rate. Our auction specified a classic double room, but we were given a lovely, quirky junior suite filled with antiques. The bath was exuberantly decorated and gloriously appointed, and we enjoyed absolute quiet, even on the first floor. The generous and varied breakfast buffet was beautifully presented. Our auction also included one dinner at the restaurant, where our bottle of vino della casa was poured like a Gaja Barbaresco and we were given free rein to choose from the extensive and elegantly presented menu. Every member of staff unfailingly greeted us when we encountered them in the lobby or corridors, and the chambermaid even left us a thank you note for our room tip. Superb in every respect.

Wonderful and Memorable!

by TripAdvisor Member benjaminwolf

My wife and I absolutely loved the Hotel Raphael. Yes, the room was small--so what, it's Europe. The room was small, but beautifully decorated and appointed. I certainly did not come to Rome to stay in the room all day. There was plenty of room to relax, sleep, shower and dress. The bathroom was all marble and luxurious. What a treat!
Breakfast was out of this world--lots of choices and wonderful atmosphere. The lobby and public rooms were filled with antiques.
On our first evening walk we happened to stumble onto the Pantheon, not to mention the closeness of the hotel to the Piazza Navonna.
Totally one of our most memorable hotel experiences!
