What is the best way to get from the Rome airport to Hotel Quirinale? Also we are going to depart from Rome to the crusie port at Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy. Does anyone know the best way to confirm transportation to the port?

Thank you,

"What is the best way to get from the Rome airport to Hotel Quirinale?"

Not knowing anything about you, your age, your mobility, your amount of luggage, etc., it's difficult to know the 'best' way for you. Here are some options:

Also, which 'Rome airport'? There are two: Fiumicino and Ciampino. Fiumicino is the larger airport that has overseas flights, but Ciampino also has international flights...and the answer is quite different depending on which airport you're arriving at.

Let's assume Fiumicino, here are some options:
1. Take a taxi from the airport to your hotel. It's a fixed fare of 40 euro (plus occasional add-ons for excess baggage and whatnot). This is simple, fast, and very good if you have a lot of luggage, or not very mobile, or arrive late at night.
2. Take the Leonardo Express train from the airport to stazione Termini (the main train station). This is 11 euro each. Once at Termini, you can either:
2.a take a very short taxi ride to the hotel (which is fairly close).
2.b take the Metro one stop (hardly seems worth the effort).
2.c just walk.
Assuming that you have luggage and whatnot, you will take a taxi (from the official queue only!), and tip the guy well for such a short trip (he's saving you from hauling your luggage down the street, after all). So, if there are two of you, it's 22 euro for the train, and another 5-10 (depending on if you're a good tipper) for the taxi...

You can also take a bus sometimes to Termini, but the train is so frequent, the bus is hardly worth it.

So, here are your choices:
1. take the taxi direct from the airport for 40 euro plus tip and be at the hotel within 30 minutes or so (depending on time of day).
2. take the train and taxi for 30 euro or so, and not get to the hotel for an hour to an hour and a half (you can wait up to 30 minutes for the next train), plus have to schlep your own luggage onto and off the train and through Termini to the taxi queue.

I personally am way beyond the need to save a few euro by starting off a vacation on the wrong foot with the official spousal unit, so I'd take the taxi all the way.

I don't know what you're looking for...If you take the train from Termini up to Civitavecchia, it's actually quite cheap and reasonably straightforward - but, again, you have to manage your own luggage down to the station, then on to the train, then from the station in Civitavecchia to the port (there are stories about a free shuttle in Civitavecchia, but this may not be available - although taxis surely are).

If you want to take a taxi to Civitavecchia - don't. Take a limo; it won't be cheap (at least 99 euro), but it will be cheaper than a taxi. Look at www.airportconnection.it as an example of such a limo service.

Travel Tips for Rome

go to Piazza Venezia.

Piazza Venezia is dominated by the monument of Italy' Unknown Soldier, to whom it was dedicated in 1911, piazza Venezia may be considered the very center of Rome, and the scenografic back-drop of via del Corso.

Also somewhere within Rome's historical center (centro storico) is this fragment of a giant statue symbolizing a foot - in hard, solid marble. Ancient Rome was bedecked in giant statues and this one was part of a statue celebrating the ancient Egyptian gods Iside and Seripide. Not as exciting or as sexy as Pasquino (see tip above), but still a vivid visual reminder of the many layers of Roman history and civilization.

My Favorite Clubs In Roma To Chill Out

by Krystynn about PIPER, HEAVEN, JACKIE O & MAGIC FLY

Party animals, hear ye! After a hard day of sightseeing... and if you still have energy to party on, then you must set foot at the following clubs.

PIPER at: Via Tagliamento, 9, Roma.
(This is THE place to be and be seen in Rome.... Too bad. I didn't get to bump into any famous celebrity here. I was hoping to see Francesco Totti in person. Maybe he's busy with his wife and kid...)

HEAVEN at: Viale di Porta Ardeatina, 118a, Roma
(Another cool disco in Rome... but my personal preference is the PIPER)

JACKIE O' at: Via Boncompagni, 11, Roma
(You guessed it... Lots of well-known celebrities are known to congregate inside this club. And I DID get to bump into a few well-known Italian celebrities on the few occasions I was here, including the divine Miss Manuela Arcuri! No wonder men drool all over her cuz even I, a female, was quite taken in by her beauty! On that one occasion when I caught a glimpse of Manuela, she was with her then-boyfriend/ footballer, Francesco Coco. Er... please don't ask me whether they are still together....).

MAGIC FLY at: Via Bassanello, 15, Roma
(Not as rocking as Piper, Heaven or Jackie O. Perhaps you might like to check it out yourself. Who knows. Your taste maybe different from mine!).

Photo: Sorry, I don't have any pics of the clubs mentioned above. So here's a photo of our Bank's lavish entertainment staged at the Castelli Romani... Enjoy! Please... the people in Rome do dress up when they chill out at the clubs and discos. So - DRESS UP! ;-)

Great Cheap Food!

by SueWarwick about Casett De' Trastevere

This is a great place to sit out and sample some good Italian food.
Food served very quickly, infact the 2nd course was ready when I was still only half way through the 1st!

About 24 Euros for 3 course meal for one with wine but if eating outside watch out for buskers who play for a while then come round the tables for money The pasta with octopus was lovely but the oxtail was to die for
Bruschetta to start with and all washed down with a decent house red.

No visit to Rome is complete without having seen its magnificent Colosseum, with seating for 55,000 persons. Upon its completion, great 100-day celebrations were organised as part of the opening ceremony. A tip: you can avoid the hour wait in line for a ticket by buying one at the entrance to the Palatine, inside the Imperial Fora.
Also, bring a hat and sun cover. I love all the cultural information that they tell me. The Colosseum is an excellent place to visit. There are 80 entrances. If you come here, you will agree that this is the ultamit vacation spot in the world.
