More about Residenza Canali ai Coronari

Really enjoyed our stay at Residenza Canali

by TripAdvisor Member lmlm585

My husband and I stayed at Residenza Canali ai Coronari for 2 nights in March 2005 at the end of our trip to Italy. This was our favorite hotel of the 3 we stayed in while in Italy. The hotel has the best location in Rome, right near Piazza Navona and in the midst of wonderful cobblestoned streets with local shops and restaurants nearby. Area didn't feel so touristy. We had a room on the 4th floor with a terrace, which we loved. It felt like our own little hideaway in Rome. The staff were all very helpful, especially Stefano, who gave wonderful restaurant recommendations and who we enjoyed speaking with. Overall a wonderful place, and we would definitely stay there again when we return to Rome (hopefully soon!). Only problem we faced was the driver they arranged to take us to the airport showed up over a half hour late which caused us some problems at the airport.

Great hotel and wonderful staff

We had a great 3 night stay at the Residenza Canali. The staff was wonderful and had great recommendations. Stefano was the best!
The only thing we would recommend is that you ask for a room on the 4th floor with a terrace. We were on the 3rd floor and the room was quite small, but clean. They served a great breakfast and helped with transporation to and from the airport. The hotel is in a wonderful location near Piazza Navona. We walked to all the tourist attractions from the hotel. We would definitely stay there again.

Nice hotel, nice staff

by TripAdvisor Member mkirschbaum

We were looking for a quiet, nice hotel in Rome and were very happy with Residenza Canali. The hotel is situated near a bunch of antique shops in a quaint little section of Rome.

We got a superior room and it was very large. There was a huge sitting room as you walked in the door with a couch and writing desk. The bedroom was also good size and the bathroom had all the updated amenities anyone would need.

It was quiet for two nights of our stay but the third night was somewhat noisy (I think there was a party a couple blocks away). The staff was extremely helpful, spoke fluent English and had great recommendations. Dont miss eating at the wonderful little family-run restaurant next door to the hotel. The food was excellent and cheap!

We thought the hotel was very reasonably priced for what they offered and it's in a great location. The hotel is small (only 6 rooms) so they offer a lot of individual attention and service.

A Room With a View Please

I booked Residenza Canali ai Coronari for my 10th wedding anniversary on the strength of recommendations on this web site. Although I was a little wary about a couple of of messages posted concerning rooms not being available upon arrival, I gave the hotel the benefit of the doubt and booked regardless. I arrived at the Residenza Canali ai Coronari on the day of my anniversary (5th May) and I had booked for three nights in a room with a roof terrace.
Upon arrival I was informed that "there was a problem" with the room and we couldn't have it for that night, and we were put into a double room with a suite instead.
Although there was no further explanation we accepted this and moved into this room. The suite itself was pointless - merely another smaller room with a couch - and the following day we were allowed to move into our room with a terrace.

When the time came to settle the bill I asked for a reduction due to only having two nights in the room I had actually booked for (the one with a terrace) but was told that the room with a suite was exactly the same price, so there could be no reduction. Now even allowing for the fact that the room with a terrace was, in my opinion, far superior than the one with a suite there was no allowance for the inconvenience of changing rooms the following day or for the fact that I had not been given the room that I had actually booked for.

Apart from this negative I would agree with the points raised in most other reviews in that the hotel is spotlessly clean, is superbly located and serves a delightful breakfast. I would also recommend eating in the more traditional Italian restaurants to be found just a few minutes walk from the Piazza Novana as although the restaurants in the square were predictably overpriced, the atmosphere and quality of the food in the more traditional eateries was far superior.

Overall a great stay in a fantastic city!

Nothing is too much trouble.

I have just returned from my second visit to this litle gem of a hotel. I cannot imagine ever staying anywhere else in Rome. The location is fantastic, tucked between the Piazza Navona and the River Tiber in the middle of the old city. The area is safe and stylish with many good bars and restaurants. You can walk to all major sites from this location.
Residenza Canali has a friendly atmosphere and throughout our visit my sisters and I felt that we were in our own private town house! The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable. They knew which buses and metro stops we should use for an excursion out of the city and whilst being very patient with our attempts at Italian, also spoke good English. We found the rooms to be well decorated and everything we needed was to hand. You may be fortunate to have one of the rooms with your own private roof terrace, although you have to be prepared to climb a fair number of steps. What a treat to sit in the sun surrounded by pots of colourful flowers and dream about "la dolce vita" with a glass of wine!
We loved the breakfasts, plenty of choice to suit all tastes and lots of wholesome food. Transport can be arranged quite easily to and from airports.

Convenient, quiet, and excellent service!

My sister and I had a fabulous 10-day stay at Residenza Canali, and no review can measure up to the excellent service and accomodations we experienced! When I became ill with the flu, they arranged for a doctor, brought in tea and juices and did all they could to make me comfortable.

The rooms are quiet, neatly and tastefully decorated, and the bath more spacious than is typical in European cities. There is a lovely, small breakfast room, with wonderful pastries, fruit, cheese and meats served each morning with coffee, tea and juices.

There couldn't be a better location for a visit to Rome! This was my third trip, and without a doubt, the finest of locations that I've experienced. Just 2 minutes from Piazza Navona, 10 minutes from the Vatican, and bus lines around the the corner that will get you anywhere in Rome. Restaurants abound in every price range and menu selection.

Don't miss an opportunity to stay at this excellent hotel in a quiet neighborhood with the finest and friendliest of staff who will help in every way towards making your visit memorable!

Sick Bambino Syndrome

We arrived shortly after midnight on Tuesday 12 April 2005 to be told that there was a 'minor' inconvenience. Apparently the previous occupants of our own pre-booked (some 3 months previously) family suite had decided to stay on for an extra night. We were told by the night-receptionist that this was due to a child having fallen sick. Consequently we were shoe-horned in to a double room with 2 additional temporary single beds to accommodate our 15 & 13 year olds for our first night. This room (room B) had poor sound proofing in terms of the down pipe chase and the adjacent rooms. The following morning we were allowed to move in to the family suite (room 5). This proved to be spacious and sound-proofed to an acceptable level. We enjoyed the remaining 3 nights stay at the hotel.

Perfect

Just back from a 3 night stay at this wonderful hotel and would definetly recommend it . It doesn't have many bedrooms and consequently has a lovely cosy feel to it. The staff, without exception , were courteous, friendly and helpful . The bedrooms were spotless and well furnished.
A big plus for me was that there was a kettle and a decent size mug. What a joy to have a decent cup of tea after walking so much. You will walk a lot in Rome . There is so much to see and if you take taxis you miss coming across so much stuff. Wear your most comfortable footwear. This is no time to try out your new shoes !
The location couldn't be better. You can walk to all the attractions easily and we did not ever need a taxi or metro.
We availed of their car service for our airport transfers as we arrived at midnight. The price was fair and well worth it for the convenience of not having to worry about that at a time when you are tired after a journey.
One thing to know and its not meant as a critism is that this hotel has a marbel staircase and no lift. The rooms go up four floors. If you are on the top floor and you have health issues this might not suit you. We had no problem with this but wouldn't suit everyone.
Last but not least, we were lucky enough to get the room with the roof garden. It was perfect . Very well kept and had pots of beautiful flowers nicer than it looks in the photo To repeat a previous reviewer ' I wouldn't stay anywhere else'

Best value in Rome!

by TripAdvisor Member pangola

We stayed at this hotel in december 2004 for three nights.
We had the room with the incredible roof garden: very well sized, very clean and beautifully remodelled. The bed is extremely comfortable, and the bathroom spotless. In other words, a PERFECT room

Be warned that you need to climb up the marble staircase, which could be hard if mobility is a problem, but was no big deal for us. We were on the last floor but I think that our room was well worth every single step we made!!. And I don’t know if we were just lucky or if there weren’t so many guests during our stay, but our room seemed to be perfecly soundproof!

The location is incredible. The hotel is on Via ai Coronari, a beautiful medieval street with shops, artisans and restaurants. It is around the corner to Piazza Navona and walking distance to everything you can be interested in doing, and visiting: you can go everywhere on foot, at every hour of the day and night (we felt really safe in the neighbourhood!).

This hotel is simply fantastic! I found the hotel on this website (Trip Advisor) and I cannot avoid to quote a previous reviewer ' I wouldn't stay anywhere else'
PS: look for some special rate on their own website, often you can save some bucks!

Great Location, but the room was less than expected

by TripAdvisor Member Troy86

We are a family of four and stayed on Canali in early May. The main positive for the residenza is the superb location - walking distance to everything to most historical sites in the center of Rome.

The two bedroom suite is really a one bedroom with a parlor room at the entrance converted into a bedroom with two small single beds place on it. This second bedroom has no closet space. At over $300usd, we expected better accomodations.
