Roma Pass Questions

by gdidde

We will be arriving in Rome on the 17th and are considering the purchase of the Roma Pass. I think that we can buy it at the Tourist Bureau at the airport

Can anyone tell me if it covers the train from FCO on local service to the San Pietro station.

We will be using the bus service so it will benefit us there.

Two free admissions also a plus

We also will be going to Astia Antica - does it cover the train from Pyramide

Anyone have any comments on the Roma Pass

Also any suggestions for the week of the 17th - 22nd

Re: Roma Pass Questions

Full disclosure: I haven't bought or used the Romapass, so this is based on what I read...

1. Can it be bought at the airport - yes, according to the official website - "[it is sold at] PIT Fiumicino, Aeroporto Leonardo Da Vinci - Arrivi Internazionali Terminal C. Dalle 9.00 alle 18.30 " (International Arrivals, Terminal C, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.).

2. No, it apparently does not cover the local train from FCO to San Pietro... Please see http://www.atac.roma.it/docunet/file.asp?mid=3&rid=4
Look at the legend on the upper left. See the three grey squares under 'ferrovie urbane/urban railways'? Those are the only three trains that the pass is good on (and the Roma-Viterbo run is only good on the section that goes to Sacrofano). Since the train from FCO to Trastevere then Trastevere to San Pietro is not one of these, you've got to pay...but it's not much.

3. However, look at the map again. Note that Ostia Antica IS on the Roma-Lido run, so you can use it there(!). This leaves from the Pyramide station.

As you probably already know, the info for the pass can be found at http://www.romapass.it/english/lecard.html and at (today anyway)http://www.atac.roma.it/index.asp?p=1&i=874&o=3&a=3&ci=55&tpg=2&lingua=ENG

Travel Tips for Rome

The Arch of Septimus Severus

by unravelau

If you don't quite make it into the Roman Forum a pretty good idea about its size and content can be gathered from halfway up the stairs to the Campidoglio Museums and Capitoline. There is an atmosphere about Rome that you may miss when away ..........but this is only one of many aspects of this historic place that I miss.

A visit to Capri

by pili

If you have enough time, you should go to Capri. You must go to Naples and then to Capri (by ship). It´s a fantastic island, with a beautiful town, full of interesting sigths, like: the Blue Grotto, the farallones, the piazetta, and more, and more.... (See my Capri page)

Taxi Cabs

by Sissyz

The taxis in Roma are pretty expensive. All though it is nice to ride around in one for a while (looking at the sites) I would not recommend it for all your getting around. There is always a starting fee of about 1.75 Euros and at night the starting fee is more around 4 Euros. So it is those prices plus the amount of time you are actually riding in the cab.

Real Italian family style food

by alysania about Hosteria la Capitale

Wow.. aside from good prices, the couple that runs this restaurant is incredibly sweet. The few times we went there, it wasn't crowded, and the place is beautiful inside. Penne all'arrabiata - spicy in just the right way

A must

by dongix

A visit to the square and the basilica should be one of your priorities. If you want your pictures to be "free" from other tourists, go there at 8 AM. By 9 AM, busloads of tourists will start pouring in and the square will not be as "empty" as you would prefer it to be. And please don't be like me when you're in the Basilica. I missed the famous pieta by Michaelangelo. All the while I was thinking it was in the Vatican Museum. Nope! It's in the basilica. Don't miss it.
