Romantic Rome

This hotel is situated within great walking distance for all the sights you want to see and Rome was very easy to navigate in fact better than I expected. We went for four days and thorougly enjoyed leisurely walking around. A the Colosseum we took a guided tour which was great as the young lady was very energetic in her descriptions. Of course I came home with two leather jackets as the leather is much softer when it is Italian. The food and wine go without saying and the service is impeccable. You can choose where to eat and what price to pay as you go so plenty of choice in that department. The hotel was lovely but had no entertainment whatsoever and the lift was really scary as it was tiny and only comfortably fitted two people. Wheelchair users ought to check thorougly on the website before booking. Other than that the rooms and general hotel was clean and tidy. A the reception they were very helpful and provided maps and advice on where to go and where to eat. Beware as we felt somewhat ripped off by restaurants. The hotel suggested a very popular seafood restaurant which allowed you to pick your own fish, we did not get the fish we chose and after having two prawns for our starter then sea bass with four potato wedges and a bottle of wine that was £100 gone, that really put a sour taste to the end of our time in Rome. Great to visit but although I have travelled thropugh Italy alot I would stick with Tuscany area anyday and dont feel I want to visit Rome again.

Unique Quality: Hotel was great, food was good with outstanding service.

Loved the River Palace

by TripAdvisor Member nasdeb

Stayed here for 5 days - our first time in Rome. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the staff very friendly. The rooms are well appointed but the temperature is very high. We kept the window open all night! The rooms are on the small side but we were out walking for most of the time. Food is excellent but I agree that drinks are very pricey. After taking the easyjet bus to Termini train station, we were approached by a 'taxi'. We later learned this was an illegal taxi - the official ones are white with a sign on the roof. The one we took was a black Mercedes. He charged us 30 euro for a very short trip. Our own fault for not researching properly. Beware! Once at the Termini, take line A train for four stops to Flaminio and the hotel is 2 minutes away. The ride costs 1 euro! We used the metro extensively - you can get from the Vatican to the Colloseum very easily.
Have a great time - the hotel will not disappoint you.

Excellent Friendly Hotel

Four of us stayed at the River Palace for six nights. Our rooms were comfortable, clean and nicely decorated. The turn down service and chocolates were a welcome treat. Staff were outstanding. Friendly, efficient and welcoming. The weather was very wet, however large umbrellas were provided for residents. Location was perfect. A 7 to 10 minute walk to Spannish Steps. We will certainly stay at the River Palace again. Ciao!

Convenient, good service and decoration

by TripAdvisor Member Fredonia

We spent the weekend of January 14-16, 2006 at the River Palace Hotel and had a very good time. Other reviews mention the smallness of the rooms and they are small, but met our needs. The decor makes you feel as if you're staying in a Renaissance Palace and the hotel was in excellent condition. The buffet breakfast included eggs, breakfast meats, cheese, fruit in additon to the usual continental items. One of the best features is that the hotel is one block from the A line of the subway which makes getting places very easy. It's also within easy walking distance of the Spanish Steps, Via Condotti area. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Cosy and comfortable

River Palace is a small but comfortable and unpretentious hotel with friendly staff. Definitely recommended for a short stay in Rome, it's well situated and has a lovely bar area. While the rooms are on the small side, we, along with what felt like a million other tourists in Rome, were out walking all day so it really wasn't an issue.

Excellent

Stayed at the River Palace 10th to 13th February and whilst I would have to say that the room was a little compact everything else about the hotel was faultless. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, cleanliness and service were magnificent and the location was in just the right place to allow walking around the city very easy. Would definitely stay there again.

So So hotel

We came here because of the reviews we read, and after staying here I think we could have done better. The rooms were VERY SMALL and the air conditioning/heater didn't work properly. The common grounds were very nice. The breakfast was average and adequate. The location was only fair. It was a pretty good walk to the main Rome attractions, but the subway station was very close. The staff were very helpful and polite, but when we booked a shuttle to the airport, they were ready to take a big cut for themselves. The night clerk quoted us a price for the shuttle, and then when we went to book it the next day, the staff gave us a higher quote. When we told about the price quoted the night before, they said OK, and we realized the difference was just a bigger cut for them. It was our first time in Rome so we don't have anything to compare it to.

Our stay was ok but on our arrival we asked for an upgrade which we were told we could have the following day, we did not unpack. On the following day we were told we could not upgrade until the next day. Later that evening our room on the third floor along with about four other rooms were broken into (no forced entry) just by using a swipe card and my beloved Apple Powerbook laptop was stolen along with a charger for my camera, my wifes switch card and Fourty Pounds in english money.

All in all not an enjoyable stay, we have been back now about two months almost three The Manager refuses to return any emails, Fax's and telephone calls as do their insurance company.

So to sum up, If you have something you treasure or al least like unless you want to carry it around rome with you, DON'T STAY THERE.

Wonderful place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member Trickletree

We stayed in this hotel between the 9th and 14th of February. We thought the hotel and rooms in particular were beautifully decorated. The room size we found to be average for a European hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They turned down the beds at night. My husband is a wheelchair user and had to undergo a bit of an obstical course to get to the restaurant every morning as it is up three stairs from the bar, then a little one and then about ten stairs and then another single one to the restaurant. It made our entrance a bit ungainly. Easy walking distance to the attractions. We were always pulled back the the Popolo square which is on the corner and a great place to sit and watch the world go rushing by.
