La Residenza near the Spanish Steps is a beautiful, small hotel.

We stayed in the Mercure about 200m from the Colosseum in December. that puts it close to the forum as well, and other sights, but still a distance from St Peters etc. Its close to the metro, so its easy to travel to those other places.

Details on my Rome pages.

Travel Tips for Rome

Rome is full of wonderful...

by xaver

Rome is full of wonderful fountains, this is the one in Spanish square, I am not so sure that people are allowed to drink that water, but....italian policemen are generally permissive with nice girls

Exchange Euros

by megoss

the best to exchange your dollers with euros, they give you document to use it in next exchanging ,every time they grant you better price, more exchange more euros,so it is better to change every day what you need.

Cinema under the sky

by sikorka

While being in Rome during the summer you can wish to master your Italian and at the same time have a good time.
What I really enjoy in the evening is going to the cinema under the sky, it's called "Cinema all'Aperto". There is approximately one such a cinema in each district of Rome.

One I've gone to was located on Piazza Vittorio, where form the 28th June till the 1st September every night there were shown 4 movies.
The fee is 5 E and it allows you to see 2 movies, the first one starts at 8.30pm and the second one starts at 10pm or 10.30pm depends on movie.

Remember all movies are in Italian, but if you have basic knowledge of this language it's more than fine. Just mingle with Italians, have a drink or gelato and watch a movie!

Roman Pizza

by OttoMarzo about Al Gallo Rosso

This is an example of "living in Rome". This is not a touristic restaurant. This is a pizzeria where roman people go. If you don't like queues, don't go there after 8 p.m. and ask for a table in the cave. Funny and friendly atmosphere, very low costs. It's a great place to eat roman pizza and other roman food. Absolutely my favourite pizzeria in Rome. Any kind of pizza is great, but if you want my advice and you are not vegeterian, take "scamorza prosciutto e funghi".

Scenery

by markapollo

This is a cool place. I paid for a tour and then went around it by myself. I like the history behind this specially after watching the Gladiator the movie. I do have pictures and will have to post them. Oh ...Dont forget to have your picture taken by those 3 Gladiator's and be the Emperor for that moment. I sure want to go back.

After the tour there are cafe's near by so you can relax have a cup of cappuccino.
