I would definitely recommend Rome Sweet Rome B&B. My husband and I were looking for a good, cheap place to stay in a good location and we were very satisfied with this. We stayed for 3 nights in February 2012.
The room was nice and big with good (individually controlled) central heating (air condition was also available) and everything seemed relatively new (probably refurbished recently since it's an old building). They just have 6 rooms and it is run by a father and son. Due to this it is relatively quiet - if you need help you can just call Paolo or Simone and they will come out and help you.
Some cons that might be worth mentioning since it might bother others (but didn't bother us) are the walls are quite thin - you can hear everything if someone is talking in reception or having a shower in the room next door - but since there are just 6 rooms (and the owners are rarely at reception anyway) it is quite quiet. It is also worth mentioning that it is located on a main road so you do hear the traffic outside, but as distant background noise since there are double windows - so it didn't bother us either. The bathroom was quite narrow and the shower head wasn't that pleasant (a few holes from where the water comes out at high pressure) - but at least we had hot water...so again not that big of a complaint.
There is a mini bar in the room and free tea and coffee included. For breakfast you have to go to one of 2 bars round the corner (we suggest Bar Quirinale) where you can choose tea, coffee or fruit juice + 1 croissant - and no you cannot even choose to take hot chocolate instead for example because we tried. Croissants were nice and fresh with a good selection. We felt it was enough to keep us going till lunch time.
Location was excellent too within walking distance of most major sites (just one block from Piazza Venezia)...and if you don't feel like walking there's a bus stop literally just outside the door where the 64 or 40 passes every 5 mins and will take you to Termini station or many other good stops (be aware of yourself from pick pockets as at peak hours you have to literally squash yourself to get inside!!)
We booked a double room for 2 people from BB planet - http://www.bbplanet.com/bed-and-breakfast-rome-sweet-rome-rome_s28190/en/ - which was enough. We didn't feel we needed a superior room and we were right. We still had a double bed (although they were 2 singles pushed together and covered with a double sheet/blanket - but this was fine).
Overall we would highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a cheap place to stay in the centre of Rome for a few nights.
