Good value and Central Location

If you're looking to save money on the typically expensive accomodations in Europe, I would highly recommend staying in a monastary/convent/pension. For your money, you get the price of a hostel but the privacy of a hotel. Rates can be over 50-75% off the cost of a hotel. The accomodations are modest and simple but what more do you need? You're going to see Rome right? Meals are expensive at this location and few if any of the sisters can converse in English but you can still get by. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it's a safe and clean place to stay for a very good price. There are private bathrooms in the rooms as well as a dining room.

Unique Quality: This is in a very central location right in the heart of Rome. It is close to the subway which will give you access to much of the surrounding area including the main transit station where you can get buses, trains, and tour buses. There is also a traditional Italian pizzeria on the next block which is very cheap and very good. It would be nice to have a few more facilities or meals included but Rome is expensive and although it may not be as good a value as other cities, I felt what I got was reasonable for 40 euros per night in April. The most unique part of this facility is that it's run by Sisters (Nuns) and they are very polite and helpful and excellent cooks!
