Re: Rome in Feb

by leics

You could not see all of Rome in 3 weeks, let alone 3 days.

One day to vist St Paul's Basilica and the Vatican museums.

One day to visit the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine, the Pantheon and all the other Roman remains in ithe centre of the city.

One day to visit some of the wonderful churches (Basilica San Clemente, Santa Maria Maggiore and lots more), the Trevi fountain, the Spanish Steps, maybe Trastevere....

...but there is so much more I've missed out.

Walk and walk and walk. Central historical Rome is compact, and seeing it on foot is by far the best way.

Loo at the Vt pages about Rome (I have some). You'll find lots of information on what to see/do and I can guarantee you will only have enough time to see/do a tiny fraction of it!

The obvious ones are of course the Vatican, Colluseum and the trevi fountain. However if you want to see something a bit special and are not too easily spooked the church of the Capuchin monks is well worth a visit. It is almost entirely decorated with the remains of the monks of the order. To see photos google their name. Some people find it a bit scary but it is quite spectacular.

It is located on -

Three days? I was there for 10 and didn't see everything. One day has to be spent at the Vatican. Another day has to be spent in ancient Rome. The Coleseum, Palentine Hill, the Forum, Trevi Fountain, and the Pantheon are all well within walking distance of each other. The last day I would just walk around and explore the city there's a lot to see that isn't on any guide book. Especially small piazza and cathedrals in out of the way places. And I would suggest not eating at a restaurant on the main street. There are a lot of small out of the way restaurants in back streets that are absolutely awesome. Have fun.

Christmas Eve 7 Fish Traditional Dinner

by icunme

The traditional seven-fish meal served on Christmas Eve in parts of Italy (particularly in towns along the sea), gets its numeric significance from the seven sacraments. The type of seafood served usually changes based on what’s fresh.
Check on my Restaurant tips for a list of Rome Christmas Eve traditional dinner venues. (List under construction)
Generally, in Rome you will find restaurants open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day in the Jewish Getto and in all major hotels (an expensive option).*

Airports- Fiulmicino, Leonardo da vinci to/from

by vysnaite

Airport of Leonardo Da Vinci a.k.a fiulmicino isn't difficult to reach with a public transport. From termini metro/train/bus station you should take a train that goes to Fiulmicino airport, train departs often every 20-30 minutes. it's an ordinary train, buy tickets for the train to Fiulmicino and hop in (don't forget to stamp the the ticket BEFORE going on the train, else it won't be valid). Train brings you right into the ..airport! airport is huge, so follow the signs. The same stuff from the airport to Rome , inside the airport follow the directions "ai treni" (to the trains) and you'll find yourself in the train station , buy a ticket to "Termini" and hop on the train.

If you need to do a trip Ciampino-Fiulmicino by public transport, then you'll have to take bus from ciampino to Termini, then train from Termini to Fiulmicino and vice versa. the full trip takes around 1.5 hour, maybe a little bit more, depends on the coincidences of the transport. Bus to Ciampino from Termini takes around 40 minutes and train from Termini to fiulmicino around 30mins.

Gino

by myriam_c about Gino

This small restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel manager. It's a place that has been in the same family for many, many years. It's also a place where lots of locals eat. The perfect place to eat well and spend little. Husband:
tonnarelli alla ciociara (Roman specialty)
involtini

Me:
tonnarelli alla ciociara
scaloppine al limone
