After Hours Vatican Tour

by Dianne200353

I have reserved an after hours tour with a company in Rome. I presumed that we would be on our own, but after checking other companies have discovered they offer the same evening as well. Has anyone gone on this tour and if so were there other groups present or were you on your own? Also how did you enjoy it.

Thanks for your input.

Re: After Hours Vatican Tour

Dianne,
The Vatican Museums do have several of these after hour group tours confirmed everyday. They usually try to get them there not all at the same time in order to give everybody that exclusive feeling of something very special and private. It might also happen that once you get into the Sistine Chapel you will see smaller groups of individuals escorted by other Vatican Guides who have received a special permit through a religious order or a Cardinal/Archbishop who in some cases will also be joining them.
Some of these special private after hours tours do also include a visit to the Raphael's Loggie (not the Raphael's Rooms) that are not part of the Vatican Museums itself.

Travel Tips for Rome

strange happening in the sky

by chicabonita

... we observed these bizarre sky signs near Piazza della Repubblica and Termini in the late afternoon.

Countless birds flew around making awesome figures in the sky!

Watch out when walking along there, if you have one open an umbrella otherwise it could happen that these artists of the sky will s**** on you ...

The Orange Park

by melissa_bel

Carry on your walk from the Knights of Malta Keyhole and you will soon reach the Orange Park, an old orange trees grove overlooking the south-side of the city. You can have a great view from there, and in May-June, when the orange trees are in bloom, the fragrance and the thousands of white flowers feel like you’re in a fairy tale. You’ll probably find some oranges still attached to the trees. Don’t try to eat one. I did and discovered they are bitter oranges. Well suited for perfumes and pastry but not for eating!

train from rome to florence

by nomadNY

I just traveled from Rome to Florence a couple of weeks ago. It is very easy. the Roma Termini has dozens of the ticketing machines by the front entrance. i would recommend buying your tickets the day before and selecting promotions -amica fare and you save about 10-15%. I would just buy my tickets the night before leaving on my way home from a day in the city.

Bread!

by Sol&Jo

Unlike local customs in North Amerca, bread is not free at restaurants in Italy! I was quite shocked when I learned this. They bring you a basket and will charge each person 1 euro or more if anyone (even just one person) takes a piece of bread.

If you don't want to pay, tell them to take the bread away from the table and you won't be charged.

When in Rome, Do as the Romans Do.

Go to the park on a Sunday! Take a stroll through the Medici gardens. The view is fabulous and you feel like a local. Although pricey, grab a latte at the park refreshment stand. Then walk down to the Piazza del Popolo.
