great place. great staff. run by an american couple who know how to give good service and offer te budget traveller a comfortable stay.
It is also a vegetarian establishment which suited me to the ground. Good happening area with a good quirky hotel
Book early - because it's good
Unique Quality: “pretty darn perfect”
I really enjoyed my stay at the Beehive, very very clean, nice size room with a sink , the bed was comfy and I loved the ceiling fan, it cooled the room nicely, the staff here are very helpful with any questions you may have, there is a wonderful cafe downstairs too, good meals with excellent prices and a Happy Hour. (also eggs for breakfast )
I also loved the patio area, great place to sit with the coffee in the morning, you do have to share bathrooms and shower but it was never a problem, extremely neat and clean, never encountered a line either, the price is great, location is very very easy from Termini, I felt safe here walking, it's a great place to stay at while in Rome.
Directions: two blocks from Termini, you can print the map from their website.
Stay away form the apartments
Stayed at the apartments. the hostel istelf was very nice but the apartments were nasty! In a bad area, no lighting on the street and looked dangerous. If you must stay at the beehive, use the regular hostel. But beware of the front counter people, very rude!
Unique Quality: The bedbugs were very nice, never had the pleasure of coming in contact with them any other place.
good place to stay in Rome
Superb hostel in Rome, I was there for three days excellent stay. very much near Termini train station. nice basement cafeteria
Unique Quality: great ambiance and friendly staff, cool cat
Directions: after three blocks on the left side corner building on Via Marghera
An Oasis in Rome
I stayed in the dorm room (22 euro/night) in March 2007. It was very clean, and quiet (not counting the street noise, which wasn't too bad). The beds were comfy, the rooms and bathrooms were spotless. The other guests were a mixed lot in age and nationality (mostly sightseers) but all were respectful of the quiet hours. I've heard the area described as "gritty" but as a single female traveler I always felt safe. I'd recommend this to anyone going to Rome except party animals.
Unique Quality: There is a free internet connection (often occupied). There is also free wireless if you brought your laptop. The cafe serves great food for reasonable prices. The map and guidebook given were helpful. The Beehive is a short walk from Termini, which is where the two subway lines intersect, so it's easy to get everywhere. Don't let the "organic" or "artsy" labels put you off if that's not your thing, this is a great hotel/hostel. Free soap and shampoo in the bathrooms, which doesn't seem like much but after staying at two more hostels on the trip - yes, it is.
Directions: Two blocks from Termini.
Bee-Hive or Bee-Square (yes, this title is lame)
The loveliest budget place I've ever been to!
Exquisite design; warm, housy atmosphere; quiet surroundings; sunny, small garden with some lazy cats; friendly staff (providing their own mini-Rome guidebook & map) and prices that won't force you to spend your last night in Termini station... Make your reservation well in advance!
Funky, Groovy place
Unique Quality: Wow! What a setup...by far the hippist place we have stayed at! The room we had was large, well decorated and nicely furnished.
A printed guidebook was in the room with tips on where to eat, what to see, etc was a godsend.
Below in a basement there was a cafe that served up a scrumptous breaky with toast and coffee, ceral and other US style food available. All were very reasonably priced.
Free internet access and a handy location to Rome Termini.
It get's a little noisy at night, but all-in-all - great.
Friendly and clean hostel
The beehive is a fantastic hostel, 5 minutes walk away from the central station of Rome. The staff were always friendly, and were at the front desk 24 hours a day. The bathrooms were new and clean, as well as the bedrooms. They also give you a very handy Rome guide with restaurant recommendations that are really worth eating at.
Overall a fantastic hostel experience, you would be asking yourself why you would spend money on a hotel.
Directions: Near the Termini station
Rome's Best Hostel
A few years ago two friends of mine and I stayed at "The Beehive" in Rome for about 3 days. The staff there was extremely friendly, helpful, and accomodating.
The Beehive was very clean and quite comfy in terms of how many persons they could accomodate. The nights we were staying, there were other travelers from all over the world and all of us tended to get together in the evenings, share wine toegether, and talk about our experiences for the day. Everyone had a great time together!
I would definitely reccomend this Hostel.
Cheap and Funky!
The Beehive is a little oasis in the not so pretty area near the main train station in Rome.
It has private rooms and dorm rooms, all with shared facilities and is run by a very friendly American couple and their helpful staff.
It is located only a couple of minutes walk from the station, close to the metro and buses, and 20-30mins walk from all the major attractions.
Unique Quality: We were really impressed with The Beehive. It is clean and modern with really funky furniture.
We stayed in a spacious private room, and were happy with the facilities.
There is a nice outdoor area for relaxing and the resident cats are friendly.
There is also a share kitchen and free internet.
All in all a great, budget place to stay in Rome.
Directions: 2 minutes walk from the main Train Station, along Via Marghera, just past Via Dei Mille.
The best hostel i've ever stayed in
This is a wonderful hostel, despite being in the dorms it felt more like a hotel. It's clean and cheap (20 euros) and friendly.
The staff at reception are welcoming and held our bags for us on the morning we arrived and the day we left while we did some sighseeing. They have a safe for any valuables and a buzzer on the gate so it's a safe place.
They have air conditioning too - brilliant..
Its a short walk to the train station, so its handy to the metro
Unique Quality: The dorms were big, with 4 bunks. They were mixed, and cool at night. Private rooms are available too.
We found it was handy to the rest of Rome, and saved money by walking to the forum etc.
They even give you a leaflet with recommended restaurents/ shops/ sights etc when you check in.
There's also a fantastic kitchen if you need to save money and eat in.
Unbelievable Value for the Budget Minded Traveller
Paid 20 euros for a dorm bed, though I would have been willing to pay more!! Free internet and use of their kitchen, very clean throughout (even the bathrooms). Was even supplied with towels and free coffee!!
They really take a lot of pride in this hostel! We were provided a handy map and booklet of "The Beehive Recommends" with local restaurant & sightseeing tips.
No curfew or lockout. A quiet, friendly atmosphere.
Unique Quality: 20 euros for dorm bed
30 euros per person for private room (w/sink usually)
40 euros per person for private room & bathroom
Free internet, coffee, use of kitchen, towels and linens supplied. Secure gate & 24 hour reception. Nice little courtyard outside too!
Convenient, just a few mins walk from Termini Station, yet a fairly quiet location.
Directions: Note that the Beehive has moved to Via Marghera, NE of Termini Station.
The Beehive is a great little hostel run by an American in the middle of Rome. It is only about a 5 minute walk from Stazione Termini (the Termini train station). The rooms are very clean. I stayed in a dorm-like room with 3 sets of bunk beds and it was coed. For a dorm bed it is 18 euros. It is in a good location - just a couple blocks from a bus stop, and an easy walk to area attractions, such as the Spanish Steps.
Unique Quality: The staff is friendly and very helpful! They are also very quick to email you back and answer any questions you may have prior to arrival. And, one of the best parts is that there is no lockout time or curfew, which is hard to find in most hostels.
The Beehive is a hostel...
The Beehive is a hostel located between Termini (train station) and the Colosseum. It is owned and operated by an American couple. The location is great, near internet stations, grocery stores, major sights and transport links. You'll find the rooms clean, spacious bathrooms, towel rental and a helpful staff. The Beehive also offers a free self-published guide book. It's more of a pamphlet than a book actually, but the recommendations and tips inside were extremely helpful. Check out www.the-beehive.com.
25 Euro/night for dormitory bed.
NOT the Beehive lodgings...
NOT the Beehive lodgings anyway. The place was boiling hot (no a/c) on the top floor of apartments near the dodgy Termini railway station. Not only was it roasting I didn't get a wink of sleep with the god damn mopeds roaring by at all hours of the night and morning. AND the place was a rip off at €25 a night
Unique Quality: The general weirdos hanging around the place.
Directions: In a dodgy area where you'd start praying after dark
