Anyone ever try Africa or Tratorria Moti? Both are fairly close to where my hotel is? The former sounds interesting because it serves Ethiopian and Eritrean fare. But would like to get some reviews before I decide to give it a try.

by ricky52

So, why don't you give it a try and then give us the reviews :o)

Re: Restaurants

by roamer61

LOL. No can do. I am a picky eater, so I need to know what the bill of fare is.

Re: Restaurants

by dory77

I've eaten at Africa before and the food is good - can be very crowded so best to reserve. The bill was a little steep for what we ate.

Don't know the Moti Trattoria... sorry.

Re: Restaurants

by roamer61

Hi Dory. I am a single person. Think I would still have to reserve?

Re: Restaurants

by dory77

Perhaps not... and also depends on what day of the week it is...

It wouldn't hurt to stop by during the day to reserve for that evening.

Ok. Thanks. It will be either a Tuesday or Wednesday, middle of the week.

You might get some advice on www.chowhound.com (Italy section). The people there seem to have great ideas about restaurants and there usually seems to be someone who has eaten where you want to find out about.

What good then is Forums in VT? I'll stick here. Already heard regarding one of those asked about.

Africa is good....if you are eating by yourself and its crowded, they may be able to put you at one of the smaller traditional dining tables or in the back area. Food is good, service ok....but if you are looking for AFrica food its one of the most consistant in the city. Areas not the best, but that's the price you pay for eating ethnic in Rome.

Travel Tips for Rome

by nicolettart

If you happen to be at the Quirinale at around 3:00 in the afternoon, you will see the changing of the guard in the piazza, which has some awesome sculptures. This is the official residence of the president of Italy. Keep in mind that the Quirinal Hill is the highest in Rome, so you have a steep climb, especially if you are starting out from Via Nazionale!( okay, not exactly a fond memory!)

Foro Italico : Stadio dei Marmi

by von.otter

“The fate of nations is intimately bound up with their powers of reproduction. All nations and all empires first felt decadence gnawing at them when their birth rate fell off.”
— Benito Mussolini (1883-1945)

Il Duce built Foro Italico, a sports complex in the north of Rome, in the 1920s as a testament to the culture of power and strength as exemplified through athletic prowess.

Although Foro Italico is located outside Rome's historic center, it is nonetheless easy to reach by public transportation. And it is well worth the small amount of effort needed to get there if you enjoy sculptural art as much as I do.

Take the No. 2 tram from just outside the Porta del Popolo. The stop is to the left and across the street as you exit the gate. Ride the tram to the very last stop. You will need to cross the River Tiber but from the last tram stop you can easily walk to Foro Italico.

See von.otter’s Rome Travelogue, 'Marble Athletes', for more details and more photos, about the stadium.

Trastè, tea & cocktail

by Ciulio about double face

Great place in the heart of trastevere!!
Up to the 08pm the atmosphere is soft and relaxing with nice music. Great the low couches and the soft lights. Excellent as it tea room or for eat a creps. The evening, up to late night, the music increases the volume and becomes chillout, the cocktails are excellent and the atmosphere becomes crazy. Not to lose!!!

Near the Pantheon

by VDElvis about La Maddalena

Went there twice. Had a pasta and a pizza. Each were quite good. The pizzas ranged from teh basic margherita, to more adventurous ones. They had good local beer, good wine, and good cappucino. The servers were attentive and friendly, and the atmosphere was nice.

Picnic with food from Campo de' Fiori

by sailshs

For a wonderful lunch on a sunny afternoon purchase meats, cheeses, and a bottle of wine for a picnic at Piazza Navona. Wish I had a dime for how many times someone told us what a wonderful idea plus wish I had someone take a picture of the two of us sharing a meal by a beautiful fountain - so romantic!
