good hotel/b and b to stay in

by lindsey9092

sorted my flights out now, still want to stay near the olympic stadium, can anyone recommend a good hotel/b and b in that area. must have internet/wireless facility and not too expensive. i will be on my own for most of my trip and will not be driving. i will be using local supermarkets for food,so would like one close, but would like breakfast to be included. im 42 so not a place full of teenages. i will be there from the 24 august.

I can't recommend anywhere specific, because I prefer to stay near Termini.

But do have a look at www.venere.com It lists the vast majority of Rome hotels and b&bs as well, has good mapping and honest guest reviews. It is reliable and used by many VT-ers. Use the left-hand column (scroll down) to limit your search to the Prati area, where the stadium is.

But it's quite a way out of the city really, and a goodly trek from where you are likely to arrive from the airport (Termini railway station/bus stop). I'd prefer to stay nearer to the central historical part.

Have a look at this thoughtful website that may be suitable:

I stayed at the Flaminio Hotel, located near the Olympic Stadium. It's just what you are looking for, from the sound of it. Not expensive, good breakfast, clean, good train connection to the stadium and Rome, plus nicely furnished rooms that are quite spacious.

I am not at all sure if that Flaminia House link is the right one. It does not look like the place I was thinking about. :-(

Actually, I meant Hotel Flaminius. Here's a link:

Hello...! I noticed you mentioned Flaminia House B&B.... I can confirm this place is at walking distance from the Olympic Stadium. The room has a Sat TV, internet connection with PC, dvd, private bathroom and frigobar...
If you are looking for something different.... let me know... I live there!

Travel Tips for Rome

There are so many great things to see in Rome.

by rachel_sun

There are so many great things in Rome to see,but you must walk around the city(most major sites are within 1.5 miles of each other) and explore the small streets and stop off and have a break in one of the great bars.Go to the Colosseum and see where gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights were staged free of charge by the emperor for public viewing. It has 80 arched entrances allowing easy access to 55,000 spectators and is also a beautiful building. Do go to the Trevi fountain,a fairly recent creation, built in 1762.It is Romes largest and most famous fountain. The central figures are Neptune, flanked by two Tritons. These symbolise the two moods of the sea.Do throw a coin in to ensure your return to Rome. I miss the great weather and the wonderful sights. There is something to see around every corner.Rome is a beautiful city. The history is amazing. The people and the food and wine were also beautiful.Rome,i will be back. .....HERE IS THE FOUNTAIN AT VIA VENETO.

Walk !

Just take a good pair of walking shoes. You need to walk quite a lot to see most of the sights in Rome Just take loads of photographic film with you. This city is so rich with architecture that you can almost snap a picture in every corner

Wine and Truffle Oil

by nicolettart

You can get wine anywhere in Rome, really!! I purchased wine to bring home in a place behind our hotel which seemed to attract tourists more so than locals. The delightful find in this store was the truffle oil. I chose the white truffle oil (in olive oil) for 14 Euro, which I thought was comparable to what I would pay back home at, let's say, Dean&Deluca in NYC. Comparable 10 Euro and up for a bottle of wine.

Good Food, Nice Atmosphere, Great Service

by dmitter about Old Bear Tavern

Nice trattoria just north of Piazza Navonna. Nice atmosphere on a quaint side street. Outside and inside dining. Lovely atmosphere, great food, and friendly service. One of the waiters was raised in NY, and living in Rome now, going to school. One of our group got the specialty "pumpkin pasta". She said that it was wonderful. Will go back next time in Rome.

Hot pizze by night - skip lunch

by Paisleypaul about La Tana de Noantri

Had flawless pizze here in 2004 along with copious Acqua Panna mineral water and ludicrously drinkable house red. Extremely amiable waiter with a brush of Al from 'Happy Days' Returned Sunday lunch time 2005 and it kind of all went wrong. The pizzeria doesn't run until evening and we had to make do witha very ordinary menu. The tortellini in brodo, zuppa di verdure, tartufo and zuppa inglese were not bad, but the 'ordinary' tag for cucina in Roma is to damn with faint praise. indeed. Total with 1L water was Eu24.

So, gets 3 /5 , should be 4 1/2 for the pizzeria of an evening, and 2 / 5 for lunch ! !
