Handling money
by lars123
When you pay with cash, place your money on the table or counter and let the employee pick it up. When they give you change, let them place it on the table or counter.
Handing money over or reaching out for it makes you stick out as a real tourist. Is miss people watching while enjoying my afternoon espresso at a local bar.
Winter Travel? Winter Clothes!
by GroovyDoc
If traveling in the winter, dress very warm! You'll be outside a lot, walking from place to place. Pack a scarf (they cost 8 euros there) and, if you have them, ski clothes. I wore my ski turtle necks that wick the moisture and it sure worked!
Reproductions Roman artifacts
by icunme about ArcheoArt
Marco says that he maintains a laboratory for the reproduction of archeological artifacts. They are quite good - many excellent marble/alabaster statues, both large and small. Lots of Gladiator artifacts that look as if they could be or could have been cinema props. Excellent array of reproduced ancient jewelry. Very entertaining! Reproductions of Roman artifacts - Jewelry especially Negotiate with Marco Bocchio - always ask for the tax to be deducted over 155 €
Try the Coda
by bdwofford about Hostaria del Moro
It is easily recongized by the huge rack of meat by the front door and blue neon sign out front. One might think of it was a touristy place due to the English/Italian menu and all the glitter, but we found that we were the only English speaking people there.
It was an extremely cold night when we went and the inside seats very little, but we stayed on the patio anyways.
The service was super. The food even better.
We tried the Napolese pizza and the coda della vaccinara.
Prices were well within most traveler, but maybe not backpackers, range. Coda della Vaccinara, oxtail
Rome's best wine bar
by baronedivandastad about Cantina Castrocielo
We're talking top quality in this wine bar. The friendly owner will welcome you in the cosy ambience and you will be offered an appetizer when sitting down. The choice of food is not too extensive, but well thought and finely prepared. They also have a couple of fixed price menus for around 37 euros, offering a bird's eye view on what this lovely little place can do
Where this place really stands out is in the cellar department. The wine list is so long you can't really read it all in the time that is given to you before ordering, so just follow the owner's advice. Be advised that some of the labels are rare, and therefore have matching prices.
I have gone to this place twice, and have always come out with a smile on my face. Definitely worth the trip, even though it's so hard to find. Book in advance since the place is very popular. Mixed cheese platter - a joy with red wine from Lazio.
