    Beautiful and very well situated

    by

When we were in Rome, we stayed in Hotel Valadier near the Piazza del Popolo. It only takes 5 min. to get to the Spanish Steps. The whole hotel (including your own bathroom) is covered with marble.

    Unique Quality: -Great breakfast
    -Huge marble shower

Great Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Billrover

Excellent hotel for the price. The bedroom was small but well furnished and equipped. The breakfast was good and the restaurant was excellent with great service and food - the best place to eat in the area. The 3 churces on the nearby Piazzo de Popolo are well worth a visit.

Tiny Bedrooms, expensive wine.

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed in January 2005. Well decorated but very, very small rooms. Good location near Piazza Popolo but be wary of bar prices: bottle of house white wine 60 Euros.
Overall: represents poor value for money and I would not recommend.

good location- expensive bar

by TripAdvisor Member mobile_mackem

Stayed 25th-28th Feb 2005,rooms were small compact but well appointed, marble bathroom LCD TV etc. Central for all the major attractions.

Don`t drink in the bar after 10pm all drinks 15 euros, there is a 10% discount for residents, that is all drinks alcoholic or otherwise.

Beautiful city, the italians we met were hugely animated and good company, carry plenty of cash .

Small Rooms, Big Prices

by TripAdvisor Member crooka

We agree with some of the other reviewers - great location but tiny rooms. Our air conditioning was fine, but the room was tiny. It is Rome, and you don't spend a lot of time in your hotel - therefore, if you can get a better deal than this place in the same neighborhood with air conditioning and an in room bathroom, jump on it.

The worst hotel I have ever visited!

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel is rated ****L. I really cannot understand how is rated for more than **.

Let's start:
Small rooms
We booked a double room for 2 persons. They gave us a tiny room (less than 15 square meters including the bathroom!). The bathroom had only a tiny shower. The bed was not double and if you are taller than 1.75cm, simply, you do not have space for your feet! Of course, you do not have space for your baggages. They changed us room only when my (furious) fiance told them that she is claustrophobic, something we did mentioned on our reservation e-mail

Dark Rooms
All rooms are DARK! Even in the middle of the day, we had to turn on the lights in order to read the newspaper!

Plastic, poor decoration
The photos are almost real about the decoration. But, they cannot tell you about how much of the wood or the marbles are real: None!!!

Tiny Windows
The larger window is 2x1 sq. meters. For an average room.

Comforts:
The bathroom had shower gel, shoes sponge and shower cap. Nothing else. The hairdryer is not producing hot air and its power is very poor. The A/C simply fair.

Personel:
If you make the mistake to ask them about a restaurant, then you have the very positive answer: Go to the restaurant next to our hotel. It's the best in Rome. The are mention (at least) that the restaurant is member of their group. They called us a taxi without a previous positive confirmation and wanted to pay for that! Generaly, the personel attitude is not very good.

Positives:
Good buffet breakfast.

Generaly:
If you are a business man, then probably this hotel is a good one, although we saw better ones and cheaper. But, for your vacations... avoid it! It's too expensive for the quality of service they provide and definately it's not romantic or even close to romantic. A ship's cabin is probably most romantic than this room. On the same period we stayed at another (****) hotel at Firenze, Anglo American. Find our review for comparison.

Rip off hotel - 15 Euros for 1 soft drink

by A TripAdvisor Member

This hotel will rip you off - Why pay extortionate prices and get the poor quality the other guests refer to. If you think you will be ripped off in Rome stay here and you will be right. 15 Euros for 1 can of Sprite in the Piano bar - yes you read it correctly - 15 Euros (£10) a can. A round of 6 drinks 90 Euros (£65). I know it was in the Piano Bar but it's still a rip off. My advice Go to a better hotel, avoid this one and visit one of Romes many Jazz bars/clubs for Music. Visit this hotel to eat in the roof resteraunt only "Ristorante Il Valentino" was the best meal we had all the time we were in Rome, Service and food faultless and the price for 4 people, including 2 bottles of frascati.....only 180 Euros - Crazy I know when you compare it to the Hotel. (Must be owned separately. The cards from the resteraunt do not mention the hotel - not surprised)

Wonderful

by A TripAdvisor Member

I was a little apprehensive after booking this hotel and then reading the reviews, however we were more than happy with this hotel. It's location is perfect, its staff are very friendly and it is spotless. Yes, the rooms are small but unusual and beautiful, sheets are changed daily and towels, twice a day.

The bar prices are what you would expect from any hotel in the UK and the restaurant is wonderful. We would not even look at another hotel when we vist Rome again, this one is perfect.

Great little find

by TripAdvisor Member cinephile126

I had booked into another hotel which was dreary and depressing, and went out to find someplace better, and found the Valadier, which was only about 5 euros a night more than the dump I checked out of. I thought it was beautiful and quite charming. Yeah, the rooms are kind of small, but very attractive, and it felt like a bargain (I think around 130 euros 11/05) after the other place, which was so much worse and around the same price. The location is great, and the staff was helpful and friendly. I'd definitely stay here again.

Where to stay?

by batgirl515

Making a return visit to rome in July. Went last February and fell in love with it. Stayed at terrible hotel Hotel Veneto (avoid it if possible). And am looking at some other options. Thinking of "Domina Townhouse" or "Hotel Fori Imperiale" near colisseum (both listed in Romeby.com. Does anyone have any feedback on either place or an other recommendation--either near colisseum or spanish steps/via veneto. Priced around EUR 150. Thanks.

Hi,
I just got back from Rome and stayed with "La Dolce Vita B&B the third time. They have apartments in all sizes all over Rome, at very reasonable prices. So if you don't need the hotel amenities like having a reception, them calling cabs etc. it's a good alternative.

We just stayed at an apartment in between Fori Imperiali and Via dei Serpenti (great neigbourhood we met many locals) for 160 Euro a day for 4 people.

I know they also have a small apt. (2 people) very close to the spanish steps that they don't have on their internet site yet. Price was 119 a day in March.

Here is their url: www.ladolcevita1.com

We had a romantic weekend in Rome last February - valentines treat - and love it.
Stayed at Hotel Valadier, between Spanish Steps and Via Poppolo. Lovely hotel with romantic rooftop restaurant, and a great wine-bar next door.
Think it's four star, but we booked on internet for around €100 per night.
Thoroughly recommend it if youcan get it around that price.

Have fun

Another suggestion... La Residenza near the Spanish Steps. I loved this small hotel - great service and nice rooms. I don't remember the exact price, but there must be a website. It's beautifully run and had a good breatkfast considering it was Italy where they don't make a big deal about that meal.

My wife and I spent Christmas in Rome, and found a great place immediately opposite the Vatican Museum. I know the location isn't what you asked for, but walking is easy, and the subway five minutes away. The area is very safe. Hotel is family run, they speak English, rooms small, but not overly, 'real' towels, great buffet breakfasts on roof-top, marble everything, very very clean. They have a billiards table, small bar, lots of common areas, with a baby grand piano. We mentioned the 'Rick Steves' travel guide and we received a discount. Cost 130 euro. nite.
The hotel is called The Hotel Alimandi, Via Tunisi 8, and the site www.alimandi.org. We highly recommend it. Eight minutes to the Vatican, two minutes to Vatican Museum. People are so nice. Look it up.

"Hotel Fori Imperiale" is the best choice. I spent there 5 days last spring. It's close (walking distance) to all the important things to see in Rome. Room was very nice and the price - less than 100 EUR. Enjoy!
