Roma Pass - ID documents

by GTT090

Thank you all for the useful information. I would like to use the Roma Pass while in Rome but I have a question. Has anyone experienced a problem with the authorities(I mean mostly while using the public transport) with his/her ID documents. I am traveling with the ID card issued by my home country where only my name is written in English.

thank you very much once again
Warm wishes!

Hi, we had also several car rentals in New Zealand (Avis, Budget), but last time we rented our car from a smaller family owned company: McDonalds Rent a Car.
Cheaper than the well known companies, but not the cheapest you can get.
We were very satisfied with their services (got this tip from another VT member from New Zealand).
Don't know if they do have an office in Picton. Check it through teir website. See for more info:

happy travels

so sorry, the wrong question !!!

Hello,

As long as the document is an original and officially issued by your home country you should be okay. Make sure you take your transport pass, the roma pass and your identification papers. They will check to see that the names match and that the pass is still valid.

How to park like an Italian

by sue_stone

Romans drive like crazy people!

You take you life in your hands when you cross the road in Rome - traffic racing in every direction, squeezing down narrow streets and ignoring pedestrian crossings.

If you are going to drive in Rome you should get the smallest car possible - this make it a lot easier easy to get a park as well!!

The Appian Way

Built in 312BC the Via Appia is the oldest Roman road that went south towards Naples. Today it is hardly used. There is a restaurant out this way, a church with a healthy cloister of nuns, and of course the catacombs. After the hustle and bustle of Rome, this is a great peaceful walk into the countryside where you will find farmers cutting hay in the Circus of Maxentius. In the photo to the left of the rider's helmet on the horizon you can just barely make out the towers of the old Roman gate, Porta San Sabastiano. When you walk from the gate you will see that they use candles as streetlights along the Via Appia Antica.

Great panini and salads

by monica71 about Pan Divino

Pan Divino is the place where we had one of the best panini in Rome. It is a very tiny store by Campo de Fiori with fresh meat produce (local salamis), cheese, pickled veggies, pies and great wines. The owner is very friendly and he speaks good English, so you will not have a problem ordering something. Everything is made to order and fresh, right in front of you. There are also premade sandwiches and salads, but why get one of those when you can have yours ready in minutes and just the way you like it, picking your own ingredients?

We got 1 big panini from here, 1 big salad with fresh mozzarella cheese, 1 glass of red wine (the house special and very good) and 2 slices of freshly baked cheese pie. We paid about 12 Euros for all this and the food was delicious and enough for a light dinner (after a long day of walking) for the 2 of us.

I have a business card that the owner gave me, so here are their hours:
Monday 12pm to 16pm; Tue, Wed and Thu 12pm to 22pm; Fri and Sat 12:30pm to 2am

Colosseum

by sue_stone

Your first sight of the Colosseum will stop you in your tracks.

Whether you are walking down the road and see it in the distance or if you pop out of he metro station across the road you will stop and be awed by this magnificent arena.

Just looking at in from the outside is great, but take a look inside and you will want to learn more about the awesome ampitheatre that dates back to AD80.

You can do a guided tour, or a self-guided audio tour. I have done both, and found them equally good.

It is a good idea to arrive early, else you may be greeted by a long queue.
