Vatican

The dress code at the vatican is very serious!! I went with a few girlfriends and one of us was wearing only a tanktop, so we had to enter two at a time so that we could let her borrow one of our sweaters. Make sure your shoulders are covered and, although I was let in with a short skirt, I think it should probably be past your knees.
Museo Nazionale Etrusco di Villa Giulia
by Chamsa
The villa itself was built between 1551 and 1553 under Julius III. Especially the famous nymphaeum by Vasari and Ammanati alone would give a perfect reason for visiting the villa.
Butit in the first place it is a museum for Etruscan art which hosts important examples to understand the culture that the Romans originated. It will definitely change your picture about the Roman culture.
A Piedi

Ok, I've said this before but walking is usually the best way to get around and to see the city (not just the "sights" but the city itself).
Plus, getting lost is how you find those really interesting places - or, at least, get interesting stories.
That said, there are buses and trams in Rome. The trams are pretty easy - I take the tram from my apartment up to Largo Argentina on occasion.
The buses I still haven't really used at all.
Really, though, Rome is a good city to walk in, probably more than some others (like Washington D.C. for one).
Split Personality
by shrimp56 about Cafe Friends/Osteria Pizzeria Margherita
These two very different establishments are joined at the hip. Enter one door and walk through to the other. We started at Cafe Friends and walked through to Osteria Pizzeria M. The first was a flashy trendy bar. The latter good solid Italian pizzeria and traditional dishes. It was near Piazza Navona, but not ON the piazza so the prices were much more reasonable. The various pizzas were quite tasty.
Pompei in Rome
by bluesmama
If you are in Rome and don't think you have enough time to go to Pompei you can go to Ostia Antica. From what I was told in the roman empire this was the port for Rome. Ostia covers quite a big area, you can easily spend half a day or more there! Remember to bring water as it gets really hot in the summer.
