Safest way to cross the street
by etruscangirl
The safest way I found to cross the street in Rome was to follow the nuns. Especially near the Vatican, flocks of nuns are everywhere, and seem to have a heavenly force field which causes otherwise maniacal Roman drivers to yield to them. If you can find a group about to cross, follow closely behind them! Make sure to stay close enough to be in the nun safety zone, but not so close as to be creepy.
Charming buildings
by Sarita76
Rome is full of wonderful places and, apart from the most famous ones, you can find interesting and stunning things to see in lots of other places. Take a look at this building, named "Ufficio Tecnico di Finanza" and located in via Quattro Cantoni, near Santa Maria Maggiore Church. Isn't it beautiful?
Getting around town
by Callavetta
Rome is a very walkable city. But even given the proximity of the sites most people will want to see, there are a lot of stairs, and a lot of cobbles and eventually your feet are going to complain.
So when you need a break........
This little train stops at all the popular tourist sites.
Where to go for Breakfast
by Monkey32 about Angelino Ai Fori
This is where I went for breakfast. It's right below the Michelangelo Palace Hostel, and in fact if you stay at the hostel you get your complimentary breakfast here. Their capuccinos are excellent and pastries are sweet. Located on a side streat of the busy Nazionale street. Capuccinos which jump started my day.
Colosseo

We were asked to join a tour just minutes after arriving outside the Colosseum. We were glad we did. Besides being able to bypass the long line, we were able to have a knowledgeable guide. Inaugurated by Titus in A.D. 80, it opened with a bloody combat between gladiators and beasts. In addition to the gory battles of the animals, they also held naval battles. Defeated gladiators might have their lives spared if they put up a good fight.
At one time, the colosseum could seat 50,000 people, and had 3 levels. Over time the marble facing was stripped away, and used to build palaces and churches.
