Sestri Levante is a perfect place for a daytrip from Chiavari.
Baia del Silenzio / Silence bay and Baia delle Favole / Bay of farietales are the most famous bays there with a nice beach and lots of hotels around the bay.
At night the whole bay is beautifully lighted and looks really romantic.

Portovenere - east of 5terre

Portovenere is a small town west of La Specia, where plenty of cruises will start to the area of Cinque terre

But also the town itself is worth a visit with its old church of San Pietro, that you will pass by, when cruising for Cinque terre.
The old church of San Pietro dates back to the 12th century and the arches of the nearby fortress-walls offer a great view over the Cinque terre Coastline.

To explore Portovenere you will need half a day and you may combine it with the town of La Spezia or maybe with the 5terre.

Hmmm, Breakfast in the Pasticeria with Chiara...

...makes a perfect start of the day !

And there are a lot of possibilties to explore 5terre and the other interestingb places along the Ligurian cast !

Chiavari is a great place to start excursions to Camogli, 5terre ,Portofino etc...

...Just make sure, you get THE BEST tourguide to show you around...

I may higly recommend agency "pollon" - their boss Chiara (seen on my pic) will take care of VIP-guests by herself....

....and PSST... dont tell anyone...
...Such a great tourguide and perfect service and know-how...

....BUT a completely lousy book-keeping ;-))

After all that time since march 2002 they completely forgot to send me the bill...

Also a sunset you would not shoot, not because it's not worth it but because in a place where you are fairly often and you almost don't notice it, can become special if the background of a walk and chat with a beloved friend...

The priceless Helga and her very nice and so kind Walter booked her flight one day before their week of holiday in Tuscany only to drive on the crazy Italian motorways as far as Chiavari to meet me...

And our short walk on the promenade gave me that feeling of complicity between friends with that pleasant chatting regardless of the distances between our home towns and regardless of how often we can see...

So how could the two waitresses of the Paganini restaurant have both the evening free exactly that day???... I missed so much their so friendly way of serving food... and I must not have been the only one to regret their absence: on Friday it can be a problem to find a table if you don't book it and that Friday almost all tables were untouched... but not "this" table and the evening, the owner-waitress apart ;-), was so enjoyable!!!

Does the "Bay of Silence" fit two women? it doesn't fit me for sure :-P but the dear Helga looks simply great in it and so was my time with her and Walter in Sestri Levante...

And I do hope your fellow travellers waiting for you at the Pisa airport were not too angry that we were a little bit late but... I wish you could have stayed much longer...
