Safe hotel for single asian female?
by soleil2
hi, I'll be in Genoa for 2 days in the Summer. Can anyone recommend a reasonable hotel in a safe location? Thanks!

I can't recommend anywhere specific, as I've not stayed in Genoa, but whilst you are waiting for other VT-ers recommendations can I suggest you have a look through the hotels on www.venere.com?
It's a reliable site which lists almost all Italian hotelsa (and others in othercountries). The guest reviews are honest (you can't reviews unless you have completed a stay booked through venere) and they will tell you if the area is in any way unpleasant.
Venere takes no money from you as long as you turn up (you just pay the hotel as usual) and its rates are usually better than the hotels' own websites.
www.booking,com is also a reliable site, but it will not lust any Italian hotels which are not also on venere.

I very much liked the hotel Christophe Colombo - tip on my genoa page - which is on the very edge of the old quarter opposite the duomo - close to everything and very safe
and quite cheap - i paid 50 euro (plus breakfast) a few years back for a single room
it has a lovely roof terrace
BUT it is a quaint sort of place decorated whimsically (I did have an en suite) and my room was quite dark because it looked out onto an historic alley
but i just loved it and loved the location

sorry, it is the hotel Colombo - and i don't seem to have made a tip on my genoa page
but it is in as safe an area as possible, so handy to everything - and very quaint

Travel Tips for Genoa
VT-Friends-Meeting
by piccolina
Genova means.... Chiara (pollon on VT) and Paolo (utttz on VT).....I'm glad they want to meet me everytime i have the chance to travel to Genova......In this pic Chiara drinking a glass of wine....(Chiara????....not me?....strange......!!)
Irish in an Irish pub...
by pollon
isn't a brilliant idea to bring two Irish to an Irish pub their first night in Italy ;-)? but... the place is nice and the evening or better the night was lovely so it turned out to be a good idea: I and a VT shirt (just to be sure we recognized at our first meeting as I wasn't expected at the flight arrival...) picked up Jane, aka oneonta_ni and Gerard at the airport while utttz had just come back from a business trip and joined to the proposal of a glass of Irish beer... the beer became more than one and the chats lots and so pleasant...
Salita di Santa Brigida
by Mikebond
Since Genoa lies on the hills, many of its streets are actually "slopes": this is the case of Saint Brigid slope.
The archivolt you see in the photo has an aedicule with the statue of this Saint. The archivolt was part of Saint Brigid's church, sacked in 1797 and demolished in 1850.
Vernazzola
by Carletto76
Vernazzola is a little rocky beach in the district of Genova Sturla. It is probably not known at all to tourists, and not so easy to reach, but it's really a lovely place and not overcrowded like Nervi (and not as beautiful as Nervi, we must admit!).
It's a good place to get sunbath in summer, spring and autumn too when there's the sun shining, but unfortunately it is not allowed to swim in the sea since the water is polluted! :-((
Getting in from the Airport
by sourbugger
In the good old days you could get a local bus to the centre of Genoa for the normal bus fare.
You still can on line 151, but you have to change elsewhere in town to make the connection.
In common with most other airports in the world, the dedicated service is higher-priced and not connected (on the smae ticket) to the other forms of public transport.
At least at 3 euro per person it's not a rip-off.
The bus that is currently used (winter 2004) is a bit on the small side - we had to wait an extra 20 minutes as the bus following the arrival of a Ryanair flight was packed by the time we made it to the outside of the terminal.
