Irish in an Irish pub...
by pollon
isn't a brilliant idea to bring two Irish to an Irish pub their first night in Italy ;-)? but... the place is nice and the evening or better the night was lovely so it turned out to be a good idea: I and a VT shirt (just to be sure we recognized at our first meeting as I wasn't expected at the flight arrival...) picked up Jane, aka oneonta_ni and Gerard at the airport while utttz had just come back from a business trip and joined to the proposal of a glass of Irish beer... the beer became more than one and the chats lots and so pleasant...
Salita di Santa Brigida
by Mikebond
Since Genoa lies on the hills, many of its streets are actually "slopes": this is the case of Saint Brigid slope.
The archivolt you see in the photo has an aedicule with the statue of this Saint. The archivolt was part of Saint Brigid's church, sacked in 1797 and demolished in 1850.
Vernazzola
by Carletto76
Vernazzola is a little rocky beach in the district of Genova Sturla. It is probably not known at all to tourists, and not so easy to reach, but it's really a lovely place and not overcrowded like Nervi (and not as beautiful as Nervi, we must admit!).
It's a good place to get sunbath in summer, spring and autumn too when there's the sun shining, but unfortunately it is not allowed to swim in the sea since the water is polluted! :-((
Getting in from the Airport
by sourbugger
In the good old days you could get a local bus to the centre of Genoa for the normal bus fare.
You still can on line 151, but you have to change elsewhere in town to make the connection.
In common with most other airports in the world, the dedicated service is higher-priced and not connected (on the smae ticket) to the other forms of public transport.
At least at 3 euro per person it's not a rip-off.
The bus that is currently used (winter 2004) is a bit on the small side - we had to wait an extra 20 minutes as the bus following the arrival of a Ryanair flight was packed by the time we made it to the outside of the terminal.
