What to do?

by guod7

We will be in the city for 2 days but am having trouble finding specific information on walking around the city. We are looking for interesting architecture, some unusual views/sights/, some non-tourist type places perhaps
thanks

The VT Genoa pages are full of info about what to see and do, all written by Vt locals and visitors.

Check the off-the-beaten-path tips (49 of them) in particular.

We ended a cruise in Genoa last year and decided to stay a couple of days. I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the highlights for me are posted on my VT pages. Of course, Cinque Terre is an easy day trip (or even a half day trip if you only visit one town)from Genoa.

:) Yes I know..I've read the postings. I am arriving next month so I guess I was looking for some up to the minute ideas..things that might just be now happening or if some work is being done on such and such a building making it less desirable to visit.
thanks for your help though
Doug :)

Try the offical office of tourism at http://www.turismo.comune.genova.it. They have current info on festivals, events, etc.

Travel Tips for Genoa

Building with trompe l'oeil

by Mikebond

How funny is the trompe l'oeil on the façade of this building? The windows are authentic, but their balconies and all the other architectural elements are... painted! I like this technique very much!
You will see this building at the beginning of via Balbi, if you come from the Piazza Principe railway station.

3D movie at the aquarium

by sim1

Besides the dolphins, sharks and the many different types of fish, you can also watch a 3D movie at the Aquarium. The entrance to the movie is included into the price of your ticket. When I was here they showed a 3D movie called 'Krakken'. I was hoping on a 3D movie with actual pictures of tropical fish in the ocean. But I got very much disappointed. 'Krakken' is a animation which tries to give you an idea what life under the sea be like in 10 million years. The special effects in the movie are good, but the story didn't excite me at all. It felt like it was a children's movie and if I had known this before I wouldn't have gone to watch it. Be aware though, it's not suitable for too young children either! One little kid was crying because the scenes of a big ugly fish going after the cute little 'krakken' was too scary for her.

In the picture you can see a dolphin playfully swimming around. Hahaha, it's hard to take a picture of them though! They are really fast! But here is slowed down a little bit to pose for a picture :-)

Prepare to Walk!

by Carletto76

Leave your luggage in the hotel, just take with you a backpack, possibly not too heavy! In Genova there's usually a good weather in all seasons except autumn when it rains a lot. The temperature is higher than in the rest of Northern Italy, much more similar to Southern Italy. So you usually don't need big coats... but a good pair of shoes! Prepare to walk a lot, most of the streets are for pedestrians only, no buses, and the best way to enjoy Genova is walking, keeping your eyes looking high among the tiny streets of the old town!

THE CONTACT CENTER: We built a...

by shivan

THE CONTACT CENTER:
We built a large contact center to manage all the network and customers' problems, with 35 people working in shift day and night.
This is how it worked. The Customer, a journalist or a Delegate, had to call a toll-free number. The Contact Center gets the call, recognised his location and send the closest technician to fix the problem. The technicians were put in the field like on a chessboard, with every square numbered, there also was a map so that it was always possible to identify the closest colleague and send it to the Customer.
