Visit the Port
I found my family history.
My big grandfather borned near Genova in 1865. (Lumarzo)
I visited churches for to obtain information about him with a guy I met in Internet: Andrea Schenone. He was very friendly with me!!!
More Info (English at Bottom)
**********ENGLISH *************
I was in Genoa (Italy) were I found info about my big granfather. With that info I will try to obtain the european citizenship.
Genoa isn't a pretty city, but some buildings are very nice. Unfourtunately the buildings it needs maintenance service. It looks like a dirty city.
The Youth Hostel it has a great view of the city, because it's located at the top of a mountain. The panoramic view from my Hostel and to wlak for little streets with Ilaria and Andrea.
The aquarium
by sim1
The aquarium is open a lot, so it's not that difficult to plan it in your time schedule while visiting Genoa. The hours are rather confusing as they differ which day of the week it is and also which months. You can find a good overview of the opening times on the official website of the aquarium : Opening times
The entrance fee is 12.50 euro per person. When I visited in October 2003 it was so very quiet, no line-ups and no waiting time to get inside. But by looking at the queuing system in front of the aquarium I suspect that it can get very busy here. So when you plan to go during the high season this might be something to take into consideration.
If you want more more info on the aquarium please take a look at their website : Genoa aquarium
Some widely used stuffs (i.e....
by utttz
Some widely used stuffs (i.e. things), were invented in genoa:
the first bank
the first stock exchange
the fabric used for blue jeans (btw: great exibition of ancient arazzi made on this fabric)
but the one I prefer is a 'trick' used by genoa republic to deal on a parity basis with all the other kingdom in europe: at the turn of the first millennium a republic was considered a 'wrong' form of government and an ambassador from a republic was not fully entitled to deal with kings... how to solve this form of governement racism? I think genoise people had a good idea... Genoa was transormed in a kingdom, the kingdom of Our Lady... with all tha papers an stamps needed to have an official kingdom... As the queen was a bit 'virtual', just under the queen there was a republic to run the ordinary administration... but abassadors and so on were ambassador of the kingdom of our lady of genoa...

DOLCEACQUA, north of Ventimiglia, is a very special place. Its medieval inhabitants knew how to protect themselves against the heat. The narrow, strenuous streets will make you feel in another time dimension.
Statione Brignole
by globetrott
It looks rather like a Palazzo - BUT it is one of the 2 big train-stations :
Genua Brignole - on the east part of Genua .
When making an appointement or hotel-reservation simply make sure, you leave at the right station !!
And if you are lucky and have an appointement with Chiara...
...THIS is the station, where she will meet you, as it is less complicated to park her car in that area ( BUT it is complicated enough to get a parking !!!)
