We are planning to spend 3 weeks in Genoa in June with two children under 4. Can anybody provide suggestions of parts of Genoa that are safe at night - where we can wander around with the kids - places that are also picturesque and if possible near a park where the kids can play. We have heard that Genoa is a fantastic city to explore but some parts can be dangerous especially at night.

And here at Porto Antico you can also walk after dinner but please DO NOT enter the so called "vicoli" (narrow streets, alleys) nearby of the historical centre after dark (some are safe but others NOT!)
And always at porto Antico there is the Galleon Neptune which is the old Galleon of an old movie and children normally likes it.
But these places you can visit during the day, they close after dinner. I'll look for other hints for you!!
You can also go on the seafront in Corso Italia (kids like skating here in summer but you have to have your own, they don't rent skates for what I know) and at Bocadasse:

After travelling from Milan to Genoa.. I have found myself in the Genoa Principe train station and my hotel was mear to Brignolle station.. Either you can travel with train to brignolle or take a bus.. But I took a taxi.. Thanks for the company :)
So I could have chance to see the both sides of the city..
This is one of the few photos I took of Genoa itself. I wish I had stayed a bit longer in this city, as I felt that there is so much more that Genoa has to offer than I have seen. But I am not sure I visited Genoa on the right time though. Hahaha, the whole city seems to be in a big reconstruction. Next year (2004) Genoa will be the European capital of culture, and they do make some work of that! Almost every other historic building seems to be restored. The facades of the (probably beautiful) historic buildings are hidden away because of the construction work. I wish I could see how it all will look like when it is done. But I guess that is a good excuse to come back to Genoa again some day :-)

The island of GALLINARA. The few islands off the Ligurian coast have retained their uncontaminated environment, where you can find colonies of birds and rare plants and flowers, and they are also of great interest from a geological point of view. The island of Gallinara derives its name from the hens ('galline')that lived there. It lies one and a half kilometres off the coast of Albenga, covers a surface area of 11 hectares and reaches an altitude of 90 metres at its highest point.
Bicycle were largely used to move inside the Red Zone, cars were almost banned.
When Heads of States arrived, anyway, bicycles have been also banned.
We had to walk, some service cars were authorized but bosses, as usual, monopolized them...
