Although it was many years ago, I remember this place like it was yesterday ;) My memories make me want to visit again, and see the city as it is now. As well as many other cities and places in Italy...
I spent a week in Genoa in the 60's, while waiting for our ship to take us to Canada. Yes, we were on our way to Canada, where my 3 uncles lived.
So.. why am I living in Australia, you might ask? ;-))
Well, it was either 'fate', or my Dad's impulsive behavior at the time. After spending many months in Austria, waiting for our departure, we finally arrived in Genoa, thinking our ship was there, waiting to take us to Canada.
Guess what.. No ship!!! Can you imagine the frustration? And no word as to when it was expected to arrive.
After a week, a ship finally pulled into the dock, only it was the wrong ship ;-)) This one was sailing to Australia... LOL.. And my Dad didn't need too much enticing, to get on board. (And I didn't get to vote)
So that is how I became an 'Aussie', instead of a 'Canadian'. ;-))
